We present a reparametrization of the Il'yushin yield criterion for thin plates which produces a simpler (though still exact) form which is suitable for use in practical formulations. A method is outlined by which the exact Il'yushin yield criterion can be used in such calculations, without the need to use approximate yield functions.

The yield surface of textured polycrystals†
Journal of the Mechanics and Physics of Solids, 1985The plastic anisotropy of a material is characterized in part by its yield surface. It is shown that conventional descriptions, based on extensions of the von Mises hypothesis for isotropic materials, are experimentally and theoretically inadequate in many instances.

Yield surfaces of composite media
Polymer Mechanics, 1977Yield surfaces with different probabilities of the appearance of plastic strains are obtained for a composite material reinforced in one and two directions. These surfaces (local yield surface density) are obtained using the local strains theory and on the assumption of the inextensibility of the composition material in the directions of reinforcement.

Approximate Yield Surface Equations
Journal of the Engineering Mechanics Division, 1969A procedure is presented for deriving approximate lower bound yield surface equations in terms of axial force, torsional moment and two flexural moments. Yield surface equations are tabulated for four common structural cross sections. A procedure is outlined for expressing these equations in terms of a load factor, and for calculating the load factor ...

Yield Surfaces for Perforated Materials
Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1973The sheet perforated with a uniform triangular pattern of round holes and subjected to in-plane stress of arbitrary biaxiality is investigated. Discontinuous fields of stress are employed to derive rigorous lower-bound limit stresses. Kinematically admissible velocity fields are also obtained, thus bounding the yield surface.

Fitting of Experimental Yield Surfaces
ZAMM - Journal of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics / Zeitschrift für Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik, 1990AbstractTo be able to describe experimentally observed deviations in the initial yield surface from the von Mises ellipse as well as translation, rotation and distortion of a subsequent yield surface, a function of the second and third invariants of the translated deviator stress tensor was proposed in an earlier paper [1]. This relationship is further

Yield surfaces and loading surfaces. Experiments and recommendations
International Journal of Solids and Structures, 1979Abstract The concepts of yield surface and loading surface at room temperature and elevated temperature are discussed and experimental results on pure aluminum in support of these concepts are presented. Recommendations for future experimental research are presented.

Quantitative surface analysis by total electron yield
Fresenius' Journal of Analytical Chemistry, 1995When the surface of a solid sample is irradiated under vacuum by x-rays an electron emission, owing to photoabsorption, can be measured. As the electrons are detected under neglection of their kinetic energies the total electron yield (TEY) is determined.

Surface EXAFS yields bond sites
Physics Today, 1981Extended x-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS), a powerful source of information about the immediate environment of selected atoms in systems without long-range order, is now being exploited for the study of surfaces. Using the high-intensity x-ray beams produced by synchrotron radiation from SPEAR, the e+e− storage ring at the Stanford Synchrotron ...
