Youngia erythrocarpa, a newly discovered cadmium hyperaccumulator plant

Environmental Monitoring and Assessment, 2014
The farmland weed Youngia erythrocarpa has been found to have the basic characteristics of a cadmium (Cd) hyperaccumulator. This study carried out preliminary and further Cd concentration gradient experiments and field experiment using Y. erythrocarpa to confirm this fact.

Phytoremediation potential of Youngia japonica (L.) DC: a newly discovered cadmium hyperaccumulator

Environmental Science and Pollution Research, 2020
Cadmium (Cd) is one of the most toxic contaminants, causing a lot of harm to environment and the human health. An outdoor pot experiment for 60 days was conducted to study the Cd(II) effects on growth, biomass, physiological properties, Cd uptake, and accumulation in Youngia japonica plants but also to evaluate the effect of Y.

Micromorphological and cytological comparisons between Youngia japonica and Youngia longiflora using light and scanning electron microscopy

Microscopy Research and Technique, 2020
AbstractThe genus Youngia Cass. is taxonomically complex and widely distributed in East Asia. Despite the high diversity of species, only two species, Youngia japonica (L.) DC. and Youngia longiflora (Babc. & Stebbins) C.Shih, are currently found in Korea. Among them, Y. longiflora was once recognized as a subspecies of Y. japonica.

Rediscovery of Youngia longipes reveals a new species of Youngia (Asteraceae) in China

Phytotaxa
Youngia wulingensis, a new species of Asteraceae from Wuling Mountain, central China, is described and illustrated. This new species had been identified as Y. longipes for a long period of time. However, we rediscovered Y. longipes in its type locality, re-examined the type specimen of Y. longipes, and found out many differences between Y. longipes and

Anticancer and antiviral activities of Youngia japonica (L.) DC (Asteraceae, Compositae)

Journal of Ethnopharmacology, 2004
Aqueous and ethanol extracts of Youngia japonica (also known as Oriental hawksbeard) were tested in vitro for anti-tumor activity against three cell lines, human promyelocytic leukaemia (HL-60), human myelogenous leukaemia (chronic K-562) and mouse Sarcoma 180 (S-180), and for antiviral activity against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), influenza A ...

Youngia zhengyiana (Asteraceae, Crepidinae), a new species from south China, with notes on the systematics of Youngia inferred from morphology and nrITS phylogeny

Phytotaxa, 2014
Youngia zhengyiana, a new species of Youngia sect. Mesomeris (Asteraceae: Crepidinae) from Guizhou province of south China is described and illustrated. The placement of this species within Youngia is assessed based on a molecular phylogenetic analysis of the nuclear ribosomal ITS and on morphological comparisons with related species.

Youngia purpimea (Asteraceae), a new species from Sichuan, China

Phytotaxa, 2015
Youngia purpimea, a new species from southern Sichuan, China, is described and illustrated. This species is morphologically most similar to Y. szechuanica and Y. zhenyiana by having capitula with five yellow florets, but differs from the latter two by having leathery and undivided caudical leaves being glabrous on both surfaces and purplish red ...

Discovery of sesquiterpene from Youngia japonica with antitumor effect

Fitoterapia
Fourteen sesquiterpenes, including one undescribed sesquiterpene lactone, were isolated from Youngia japonica, and their structures were identified by NMR, HRESIMS, ECD and calculated ECD. Cytotoxic activities of all isolates against A549, HeLa, and 4 T1 cell lines were detected by CCK8 assay.

A new species of Youngia (Asteraceae, tribe Cichorieae) from Yunnan, China

Phytotaxa, 2016
Youngia gongshanensis, a new species of Youngia sect. “Mesomeris” from Yunnan province of China is described and illustrated based on evidence from morphology and molecular phylogeny. The new species is superficially very similar to Y. atripappa having a solitary and erect stem and more or less lyrately pinnatisect leaves, but can be distinguished by ...
