Discovery of Sesquiterpene Lactones with Cytotoxicity from the Herb of Youngia japonica
Chemistry & BiodiversityAbstractIn the process of searching for anti‐breast cancer agents, five sesquiterpene lactones (1‐5), including two previously undescribed ones, yjaponica B‐C (1‐2), were isolated from the herb of Youngia japonica. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic data analyses and Marfey's method.

Weeds with broad distributions and large morphological variation are challenging for systematists and evolutionarily intriguing because their intensive dispersal would likely prevent local morphological differentiation. Study on weeds will help to understand divergence in plants unlikely to be affected by geographical and ecological barriers.

Occurrence of γ‐linolenic acid in compositae: A study of Youngia tenuicaulis seed oil
Lipids, 1999AbstractSeeds of Youngia tenuicaulis and other species from the plant family Compositae (Asteraceae) were studied for their oil content and fatty acid composition. The seed oil of Y. tenuicaulis growing in Mongolia was found to contain 5.6% γ‐linolenic acid (18∶3Δ6cis,9cis,12cis) in addition to common fatty acids.

Youngia muliensis (Asteraceae, Crepidinae), a new species from Sichuan, China
PhytotaxaYoungia muliensis, a new species from Muli county, Sichuan province, China, is described and illustrated. This species is morphologically similar to Y. pilifera, sharing features such as rosulate basal leaves, a stem lacking cauline leaves, strigose leaf surfaces and inner phyllaries that are glabrous abaxially and appressed-hairy adaxially.
