Performance degradation and recovery of YSZ membrane under sulphuric acid thermal decomposition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The effect of sulphur dioxide (SO2) present in the cathode feed stream on the performance of a 8 mole% yttria-stabilized zirconia/platinum (8YSZ/Pt) cell was studied. SO2 concentration of 30% in oxygen (5ml/min) and helium (30ml/min) was exposed to

Revealing the Giant Electromechanical Effects in Yttria-Stabilized Zirconia Single Crystal. [PDF]

open access: yesAdv Sci (Weinh)
Giant electromechanical responses are uncovered in yttria‐stabilized zirconia single crystal (SC‐YSZ), exhibiting pronounced orientation dependence. The giant electrostriction and piezoelectricity are directly correlated with the long‐range transport kinetics of oxygen vacancies.

Engineering of Crystal and Domain Structures in Epitaxial Y:HfO2 Thin Films by YSZ Substrate Miscut. [PDF]

open access: yesAdv Sci (Weinh)
We investigate how YSZ substrate miscut influences crystal structure and domain formation in epitaxial Y‐doped HfO2 thin films. Using magnetron sputtering, high‐resolution X‐ray diffraction, atomic‐resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy, and first‐principles calculations, we systematically examine the characteristics of thickness‐ and ...

Preparation and sintering behavior of GdYb-YSZ nanostructured thermal barrier coating

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2023
Gd and Yb co-doped YSZ (GdYb-YSZ) is one of the potential ultra-high temperature thermal barrier coatings due to its excellent properties. GdYb-YSZ nanostructured coatings were prepared using atmospheric plasma spraying, and the deposition mechanism ...

ZrO2 9.5Y2O3 5.6Yb2O3 5.2Gd2O3; a promising TBC material with high resistance to hot corrosion

open access: yesJournal of Asian Ceramic Societies, 2020
Hot corrosion in Na2SO4-V2O5 environments has been regarded as a major challenge in the destruction of thermal barrier coatings (TBCs). The present study introduces a new TBC (ZrO2 9.5Y2O3 5.6Yb2O3 5.2Gd2O3 (ZGYbY)) with enhanced resistance to hot ...

Femtosecond Laser Additive Manufacturing of Multi-Material Layered Structures

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
Laser additive manufacturing (LAM) of a multi-material multi-layer structure was investigated using femtosecond fiber lasers. A thin layer of yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) and a Ni−YSZ layer were additively manufactured to form the electrolyte ...

Does speed-sintering affect the optical and mechanical properties of yttria-stabilized zirconia? A systematic review and meta-analysis of in-vitro studies

open access: yesJapanese Dental Science Review, 2023
Zirconia restorations are increasingly popular in dental treatment. Yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) needs to be sintered for clinical applications and novel speed-sintering protocols are being developed for chairside treatments.

Assessment of the properties of sprayed coatings for the thermal barrier applied to the piston of internal-combustion engine

open access: yesMechanical Engineering Journal, 2014
The properties of three thermal sprayed coatings (Coating①: Top coat; Al2O3, Bond coat; Ni-Cr, Coating②: Top coat; YSZ, Bond coat; CoNiCrAlY, Coating③: SUS316) were compared to select the effective sprayed coating for giving the thermal barrier to the Al
