Degradation of SPS-Fabricated YSZ and Nd2O3-YSZ Ceramics in Supercritical Water

Journal of Materials Engineering and Performance, 2016
Zirconia (ZrO2) ceramics are being considered as a candidate material for thermal insulating barriers in pressure tubes used in the supercritical water (SCW) nuclear reactors. However, the literature suggests that zirconia may undergo a detrimental phase transformation which is accelerated in aqueous environments.

Structure - Property Relationships of Ni/YSZ and Ni/(YSZ+TiO2) Cermets

Fuel Cells, 2001
Cermets composed of nickel metal and Y2O3-ZrO2-TiO2 ternary ceramics were investigated by X-ray diffraction, dilatometry, electrical and microstructural measurements and are regarded as improved anode materials with respect to long-term stability. With increasing titania content it was possible to minimise the electrical and microstructural changes ...

Effect of YSZ fiber addition on microstructure and properties of porous YSZ ceramics

Journal of Materials Science, 2012
Yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) fiber was introduced as the reinforcement for porous YSZ ceramics fabricated by tert-butyl alcohol-based gel-casting process and pressureless sintering. Effect of YSZ fiber addition on the microstructure and properties of porous YSZ ceramics was studied systematically.

Microstructural evolution of YSZ electrolyte aerosol-deposited on porous NiO-YSZ

Journal of the European Ceramic Society, 2012
Abstract Dense, crack-free, ∼7.5 μm thick, 8 mol% yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) film was aerosol deposited on porous NiO-YSZ anode substrates at room temperature without additional high-temperature sintering. The films’ microstructures and gas permeability were observed after annealing at various temperatures.

YSZ‐Induced Crystallographic Reorientation of Ni Particles in Ni–YSZ Cermets

Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 2007
Metal–ceramic interfaces in Ni–YSZ (YSZ, yttria‐stabilized zirconia)‐textured porous cermets prepared by reduction of NiO–YSZ directionally solidified eutectics have been studied by transmission electron microscopy and X‐ray pole figure experiments. Before reduction of NiO, the interfacial plane is

Three-Dimensional EBSD Analysis of YSZ, NiO-YSZ and Ni-Alloy

MRS Proceedings, 2012
ABSTRACTIn this report, a method is discussed to perform successive milling on yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ), NiO-YSZ and Ni-alloy at the intervals of 85 nm 50 nm and 100 nm, respectively using a focused ion beam (FIB) followed by electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) analysis on each slice.

Effects of impurities on microstructure in Ni/YSZ–YSZ half-cells for SOFC

Solid State Ionics, 2003
Long-term properties of Ni/yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) cermet anode+YSZ electrolyte pellet (d=7.4 mm) half-cells were evaluated experimentally. Two commercial NiO powders containing different levels of impurities were used for the anodes. The durability was evaluated at temperatures of 850 °C over 1500–1800 h in H2 with 1–3% H2O under an anodic ...
