Mechanical evaluation of yttria

SPIE Proceedings, 1990
A method is described to make multiple measurements of the strength of a single hemispherical ceramic dome with a ring-on-ring flexure test of disklike sections removed from the dome by a core drill. Preliminary results show that dome cores exhibit lower strength than flat disks, because the domes have larger critical surface flaws than those ...

Effects of yttria concentration on the EPR signal in x-ray-irradiated yttria-stabilized zirconia

Physical Review B, 1989
The anisotropic EPR signal already observed in x-ray-irradiated yttria-stabilized zirconia is analyzed between 140 and 300 K in samples containing 12% and 24% ${\mathrm{Y}}_{2}$${\mathrm{O}}_{3}$. A temperature-dependent broadening is detected and attributed to spin-lattice interactions whose mechanisms are discussed.

Analytical Electron Microscopy of Yttria Partitioning in the Yttria‐Partially‐Stabilized Zirconia Crystal

Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 1986
Yttria‐partiaUy‐stabilized zirconia was grown frcm the melt by the arc‐image floating zone technique and annealed at 1700'C. The yttria concentration of the crystal was measured by analytical electron microscopy. The crystal, which contained 8.6 mol% YO 1. 5 , consists of tetragonal and cubic

Nanograined highly transparent yttria ceramics

Optics Letters, 2009
The field of transparent ceramics is enjoying a renaissance, as refractory oxides are being developed as alternatives to single crystals in high-performance laser systems. However, a significant challenge remains regarding the reduction of the grain size to sufficiently subwavelength dimensions in order to achieve the same degree of optical ...

Production of yttria ceramics by gelcasting

2011
The production of yttria ceramics by green-gelcasting technique was developed through: (1) optimization of aqueous yttria slurries; (2) optimization of the gelcasting process; (3) thermal treatments and characterization of the final microstructures. Different dispersants were tested. Zeta potential characterization of the dispersed state was performed.

Colloidal Stability and Sintering of Yttria–Silica and Yttria–Silica–Alumina aqueous suspensions

Journal of the European Ceramic Society, 1999
Abstract The aim of this work was to produce dense yttrium silicate materials by slip casting, with more than 90% of Y2SiO5 phase. The rheological behaviour of concentrated aqueous slips was studied considering the effect of the dispersing additives, solids content and pH. The densification kinetics was examined as a function of temperature and time,

Paramagnetic defects in electron-irradiated yttria-stabilized zirconia: Effect of yttria content

Journal of Applied Physics, 2011
We have studied the effect of the yttria content on the paramagnetic centers in electron-irradiated yttria-stabilized zirconia (ZrO2: Y3+) or YSZ. Single crystals with 9.5 mol % or 18 mol % Y2O3 were irradiated with electrons of 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, and 2.5 MeV.

Impedance spectroscopy analysis of percolation in (yttria-stabilized zirconia)-yttria ceramic composites

Solid State Ionics, 2004
Abstract (ZrO2:8 mol% Y2O3)+m mol% Y2O3 ceramic composites with nominal yttria concentration varying from 0 to70 mol% (0–82.9 vol.%) were prepared by evaporation of a suspension of ZrO2:8 mol% Y2O3 and Y2O3 in ethanol followed by pressing and sintering.
