The Zirconia-Yttria System

Journal of The Electrochemical Society, 1951
The phase relationships in the zirconia‐yttria system have been established up to 2000°C. The addition of 0 to 5 mole per cent yttria lowers the temperature at which zirconia transforms from the tetragonal to the monoclinic form. From 7 to 55 mole per cent yttria is soluble in zirconia and this solid solution is cubic (stabilized zirconia). A two‐phase

Phase relationships in the yttria-rich part of the yttria-zirconia system

Journal of Materials Science, 1977
Phase equilibria in yttria-zirconia mixtures containing not less than 50 mol % YO1.5 have been studied between 1200 and 2200° C. The solubility of zirconia in yttria is shown to decrease with increasing temperature: the miscibility gap between the zirconia (fluorite) and yttria (type C rare earth) solid solutions extends from 64 to 75 mol % YO1.5 at ...

Dense and High Purity Yttria Coatings by APS with a New Yttria Powder

International Thermal Spray Conference, 2013
Abstract This study compares the morphology, porosity, and purity of yttria powders produced by spray drying, spray drying and sintering (SDS), and spray drying and plasma fusion (SDPF). The surface morphology of each type of powder is examined by SEM.

Combustion synthesis of yttria

Journal of Materials Chemistry, 1995
Fine-particle, sinter-active yttria has been prepared by combustion of a redox compound, Y(N2H3COO)3·3H2O and mixtures of Y(N2H3COO)3·3H2O–NH4NO3 or NH4ClO4 as well as yttrium nitrate and hydrazine-based fuels. The fineparticle nature of the combustion-derived yttria has been investigated using powder density, particle size and BET surface area ...

Luminescence of pure yttria

Optics and Spectroscopy, 2008
Pulsed cathodoluminescence of samples of nominally pure yttria—commercially available powder, nanopowder prepared from it, and ceramics sintered from this nanopowder—is studied in the range 380–850 nm. The luminescence spectra at room temperature exhibit broad bands at λ ≈ 437 and 487 nm and series of narrow bands that are located in the blue (435–510 ...

The Yttria‐Hafnia System

Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 1975
Phase equilibria in the yttria‐hafnia system were investigated by high‐temperature and room‐temperature X‐ray diffraction. The HfO 2 transformation, solid solution limits, and liquidus temperatures are given. A tentative phase diagram is proposed.

Mechanical evaluation of yttria

SPIE Proceedings, 1990
A method is described to make multiple measurements of the strength of a single hemispherical ceramic dome with a ring-on-ring flexure test of disklike sections removed from the dome by a core drill. Preliminary results show that dome cores exhibit lower strength than flat disks, because the domes have larger critical surface flaws than those ...

Effects of yttria concentration on the EPR signal in x-ray-irradiated yttria-stabilized zirconia

Physical Review B, 1989
The anisotropic EPR signal already observed in x-ray-irradiated yttria-stabilized zirconia is analyzed between 140 and 300 K in samples containing 12% and 24% ${\mathrm{Y}}_{2}$${\mathrm{O}}_{3}$. A temperature-dependent broadening is detected and attributed to spin-lattice interactions whose mechanisms are discussed.

Production of yttria ceramics by gelcasting

2011
The production of yttria ceramics by green-gelcasting technique was developed through: (1) optimization of aqueous yttria slurries; (2) optimization of the gelcasting process; (3) thermal treatments and characterization of the final microstructures. Different dispersants were tested. Zeta potential characterization of the dispersed state was performed.

Analytical Electron Microscopy of Yttria Partitioning in the Yttria‐Partially‐Stabilized Zirconia Crystal

Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 1986
Yttria‐partiaUy‐stabilized zirconia was grown frcm the melt by the arc‐image floating zone technique and annealed at 1700'C. The yttria concentration of the crystal was measured by analytical electron microscopy. The crystal, which contained 8.6 mol% YO 1. 5 , consists of tetragonal and cubic
