Simulating Active Layer Thaw in a Boreal Environment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
A large part of the boreal zone of the western Canadian Arctic is underlain by ice-rich discontinuous permafrost which when thawed, can lead to settlement of the ground surface that has implications for the integrity of northern infrastructure, including

The Impact of Climate and Land Cover Change on the Cryosphere and Hydrology of the Mackenzie River Basin, Canada

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 61, Issue 12, December 2025.
Abstract Northern basins are projected to continue warming at rates higher than the global average, with the impacts of warming compounded by concomitant deglaciation, permafrost thaw and vegetation shifts. The Mackenzie River Basin drains headwaters in the glaciated Canadian Rockies to the Arctic Ocean and is mostly underlain by permafrost.

Simultaneous Observations of Quasi‐Orthogonal Nighttime MSTIDs at Conjugate African‐European Midlatitude Stations on 4 October 2018

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, Volume 130, Issue 12, December 2025.
Abstract Two quasi‐orthogonal nighttime medium‐scale traveling ionospheric disturbances (MSTIDs) were observed by conjugate midlatitude all‐sky imagers in Sutherland (32.4° ${}^{\circ}$S, 20.8° ${}^{\circ}$E; magnetic latitude: ∼ ${\sim} $−40.9° ${}^{\circ}$) and Asiago (45.87° ${}^{\circ}$N, 11.53° ${}^{\circ}$E; magnetic latitude: ∼40.3° ${\sim} 40.3{

Human gut-associated Bifidobacterium species salvage exogenous indole, a uremic toxin precursor, to synthesize indole-3-lactic acid via tryptophan

open access: yesGut Microbes
Indole in the gut is formed from dietary tryptophan by a bacterial tryptophan-indole lyase. Indole not only triggers biofilm formation and antibiotic resistance in gut microbes but also contributes to the progression of kidney dysfunction after ...

Safety Evaluation of the High‐Dose Intake of Heat‐Killed Lacticaseibacillus paracasei MCC1849 in Healthy Adults

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 13, Issue 11, November 2025.
This study evaluated the safety of a high‐dose intake of heat‐killed Lacticaseibacillus paracasei MCC1849, a type of postbiotic. No adverse events related to the test food were observed in anthropometric and blood pressure measurements, blood and urine analysis, or medical interviews. These results suggest that the intake of MCC1849 is safe.
