The Zaremba problem in edge Sobolev spaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Mixed elliptic boundary value problems are characterised by conditions which have a jump along an interface of codimension 1 on the boundary. We study such problems in weighted edge Sobolev spaces and show the Fredholm property and the existence of parametrices under additional conditions of trace and potential type on the interface.

On the exceptional set in Littlewood's discrete conjecture

open access: yesBulletin of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 58, Issue 5, May 2026.
Abstract We consider a discrete analogue of the well‐known Littlewood conjecture on Diophantine approximations and obtain a strong upper bound for the number of exceptional vectors in this conjecture.

The Monetary Policy–Commodities Nexus: A Survey

open access: yesJournal of Economic Surveys, Volume 40, Issue 2, Page 1050-1082, April 2026.
ABSTRACT This survey synthesizes evidence on the bidirectional links between commodity markets and monetary policy. On the commodities‐to‐policy side, we review how shocks to energy, food, and metals pass through to inflation, inflation expectations, economic activity, and financial stability in state‐dependent ways that vary by shock type, exposure ...

Recurrent Highway Networks

open access: yes, 2017
Many sequential processing tasks require complex nonlinear transition functions from one step to the next. However, recurrent neural networks with 'deep' transition functions remain difficult to train, even when using Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM ...

Thomas-Fermi von Weizs\"acker theory for a harmonically trapped, two-dimensional, spin-polarized dipolar Fermi gas

open access: yes, 2013
We systematically develop a density functional description for the equilibrium properties of a two-dimensional, harmonically trapped, spin-polarized dipolar Fermi gas based on the Thomas-Fermi von Weizs\"acker approximation.

Beyond Usual Suspects: Revisiting Barriers to Childbearing Decisions in a Low Fertility Setting

open access: yesPopulation and Development Review, Volume 52, Issue 1, Page 94-134, March 2026.
Abstract Fertility rates in developed countries have declined to historically low levels, yet the reasons remain incompletely understood. This study examines the relative importance of diverse macro contextual constraints on childbearing intentions among young adults (aged 20–35) in Poland, a country emblematic of Europe's fertility decline.

Vacuum Boundary Effects

open access: yes, 2008
The effect of boundary conditions on the vacuum structure of quantum field theories is analysed from a quantum information viewpoint. In particular, we analyse the role of boundary conditions on boundary entropy and entanglement entropy.

An asymptotic local–global theorem on heights of some Kleinian group orbits

open access: yesJournal of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 113, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract We prove an asymptotic local–global theorem on the heights of point orbits of thin subgroups of Bianchi groups in H3$\mathbb {H}^3$.
