Use of FIB to Study ZDDP Tribofilms [PDF]

open access: yesTribology Letters, 2018
Focussed ion beam milling (FIB) followed by TEM has been used to study ZDDP tribofilms on rubbed steel surfaces. It has been found that the impact of high energy platinum and gallium ions during FIB causes significant morphological and structural changes to the uppermost 30–50 nm of a ZDDP tribofilm.

Synergistic Enhancement of the Lubrication Performance of Zinc Dialkyldithiophosphate by Coexistence with Ionic Liquid

open access: yesTribology Online, 2021
Ionic liquids (ILs) are being considered as novel lubricant additives to improve the friction and anti-wear characteristics of sliding surfaces. Because ILs consist of only cations and anions, their physical and chemical properties can be easily tailored

A review on potentials and challenges of nanolubricants as promising lubricants for electric vehicles

open access: yesLubrication Science, Volume 34, Issue 1, Page 1-29, January 2022., 2022
Abstract The most remarkable difference between electric vehicles (EVs) and conventional ones is the fuel burning dependency of the internal combustion engine, while the emerging EVs operate on electric motors. These alternations create staggering shifts in both lubricants' market demand and performance specifications.

Effects of Commercial Antioxidants on Aging Resistances of Asphalt Binders

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, Volume 2022, Issue 1, 2022., 2022
Asphalt aging has a direct influence on the durability of asphalt mixture. In order to improve thermal oxidizing aging resistance of asphalt, the commercial antioxidants including Irganox 1010 and Irgafos 168 were selected to modify base asphalt and SBR asphalt.

Experimental studies on viscosity, thermal and tribological properties of vegetable oil (kapok oil) with boric acid as an additive

open access: yesMicro &Nano Letters, Volume 16, Issue 5, Page 290-298, 29 April 2021., 2021
Abstract Non‐renewability and damage caused to the environment while using mineral based and synthetic based lubricants become the greatest concern of this century. Disposal issues initiated a global trend to utilize vegetable based lubricants in industries. Vegetable oils are environmental friendly, have low toxicity and highly biodegradable in nature.

In Situ Raman-SLIM Monitoring for the Formation Processes of MoDTC and ZDDP Tribofilms at Steel/Steel Contacts under Boundary Lubrication

open access: yesTribology Online, 2020
In this study, the formation processes of molybdenum dithiocarbamate (MoDTC) and zinc diallyldithiophosphate (ZDDP) tribofilms were investigated using an in situ Raman-space layer imaging method (SLIM) tribometer under boundary lubrication.

Influence of Succinimide Dispersants on Film Formation, Friction and Antiwear Properties of Zinc Dialkyl Dithiophosphate [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
ZDDP (zinc dialkyldithiophosphate) is arguably the most successful antiwear additive ever employed in crankcase engine lubricants. It was originally used as an antioxidant and shortly afterwards recognized for its antiwear and extreme pressure ...

Investigation of ionic liquids with and without graphene as lubricant additive for metal/metal and metal/PEEK contacts over a wide temperature range

open access: yesLubrication Science, Volume 33, Issue 2, Page 100-111, March 2021., 2021
Abstract The aim of the work is to improve tribological properties of an ATF oil by means of additives. Two ionic liquids (IL) and one IL with 0.1 wt.% graphene were chosen as candidates. The ILs were selected because of their promising surface interactions and proven synergy with anti‐wear additives.
