Use of FIB to Study ZDDP Tribofilms [PDF]

open access: yesTribology Letters, 2018
Focussed ion beam milling (FIB) followed by TEM has been used to study ZDDP tribofilms on rubbed steel surfaces. It has been found that the impact of high energy platinum and gallium ions during FIB causes significant morphological and structural changes to the uppermost 30–50 nm of a ZDDP tribofilm.

Interfacial friction enabling ≤ 20 μm thin free-standing lithium strips for lithium metal batteries [PDF]

open access: yesNature Communications, 2023
A practical high-specific-energy Li metal battery requires thin (≤20 μm) and free-standing Li metal anodes, but the low melting point and strong diffusion creep of lithium metal impede their scalable processing towards thin-thickness and free-standing ...

Tribology Properties of Synthesized Multiscale Lamellar WS2 and Their Synergistic Effect with Anti-Wear Agent ZDDP

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
The microscale/nanoscale lamellar-structure WS2 particles with sizes of 2 µm and 500 nm were synthesized by solid-phase reaction method and characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).

ZDDP Tribofilm Formation and Removal

open access: yesTribology Letters
Abstract While ZDDP tribofilm formation has been widely studied, the mechanism of ZDDP tribofilm removal during rubbing is still unclear. The study employs a ball on disc tribometer to monitor ZDDP tribofilm development in rolling-sliding, mixed lubrication conditions.

Mechanism of Friction and Wear in MoS2 and ZDDP/F-PTFE Greases under Spectrum Loading Conditions

open access: yesLubricants, 2015
Two different greases formulated using MoS2 and a combination of ZDDP and functionalized PTFE (F-PTFE) were examined under spectrum loading conditions where loads, frequency, and duration of the steps were treated as variables.

Influence of ZDDP tribofilm on micropitting formation and progression [PDF]

open access: yesTribology International
This paper presents insights into how Zinc Dialkyl Dithiophosphate (ZDDP) influences the formation and progression of micropitting. Experimental investigations were conducted using a twin-disc tribometer in rolling-sliding contacts under mixed or boundary lubrication conditions, focusing on the impact of ZDDP on micropitting in bearing steel samples ...

Tribological manufacturing of ZDDP tribofilms functionalised by graphene nanoplatelets

open access: yesJPhys Materials
3D Tribo-Nanoprinting (3D TNP), which uses a highly controllable tribological contact to deposit tribofilms, has been proposed as a manufacturing method for nanoscale structures.

Detailed chemical analysis of a fully formulated oil using dielectric barrier discharge ionisation-mass spectrometry. [PDF]

open access: yesRapid Commun Mass Spectrom, 2022
Rationale Fully formulated oils (FFOs) are integral to automotive lubrication; however, detailed compositional analysis is challenging due to high levels of chemical complexity. In particular, existing mass spectrometric approaches often target particular FFO components, leading to poor analytical coverage of the overall formulation, with increased ...

Review of Thin Lithium Metal Battery Anode Fabrication - Microstructure - Electrochemistry Relations. [PDF]

open access: yesAdv Mater
Thin, lightweight lithium‐metal anodes are pivotal for practical high‐energy batteries. This review surveys processing routes that convert diverse Li precursors, e.g., ingots, melts, solutions, and vapor, into Li‐rich foils with controlled thickness, areal density, and tailored functionality.

Chemical analysis of additives included in fully formulated oils using high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. [PDF]

open access: yesRapid Commun Mass Spectrom
Rationale Fully formulated oils (FFOs) are chemically complex petrochemical products composed of base oil and additive mixtures that are employed in automotive engines to provide lubrication. In particular, the additive portion of FFOs is often precisely controlled to tailor the resultant formulation to a specific role.
