Somatic Embryogenesis in Maize (Zea mays L.)
1995Maize is an herbaceous monocot with an annual cycle. Its embryo lies embedded in the endosperm at one side, toward the base of the caryopsis, with the primary root directed toward the attached end. The scutellum is large, lies directly against the endosperm, and partially encloses the embryonic axis. The primary root is enclosed by a coleorhiza.

Leaf vasculature in Zea mays L.
Planta, 1985The vascular system of the Zea mays L. leaf consists of longitudinal strands interconnected by transverse bundles. In any given transverse section the longitudinal strands may be divided into three types of bundle according to size and structure: small, intermediate, large. Virtually all of the longitudinal strands intergrade structurally however, from

Cytokinins distribution in leaves, roots, some internodes, male and female inflorescences during vegetative growth and organogenesis of reproductive organs of Zea mays L. was studied. Decrease in zeatin and zeatin riboside contents in leaves, roots and internodes has been shown.

Heterosis and Photosynthesis in Maize (Zea Mays L.)
1984In previous studies we have reported that marked metabolic deviations in the first steps of the C4 photosynthetic pathway occur among inbred lines of maize with changes In the photosynthetic rate and dry matter production (Morot-Gaudry et al., 1979; Morot-Gaudry et al., 1981).
