No evidence for a recent genetic bottleneck in the endangered Sheko cattle breed (African Bos taurus) revealed by microsatellite analysis [PDF]
Sheko is African taurine cattle, valued for its milk yield, adaptation to humid tsetse infested environment and trypanotolerance. We used 30 microsatellite markers in analyzing 30 DNA samples. We found high genetic diversity and no genetic bottlenecks in

Lower jaw fracture in a Zebu × Brown Swiss calf due to attack by domestic dogs (Canis familiaris)
Abstract The objective of this report is to describe the case of a calf attacked by domestic dogs, which caused an incomplete fracture of the left lower jaw, resulting in bone exposure within the oral cavity. Clinical evolution is described 3 months post‐attack. The exposed portion of the fractured bone was removed, as well as two small bone fragments.

Ingestive behavior of Guzerat and Sindhi heifers under the effects of feed restriction=Comportamento ingestivo de novilhas Guzerá e Sindi sob efeito de restrição alimentar [PDF]
This study aimed to evaluate the effect of feed restriction on the ingestive behavior of Guzerat and Sindhi heifers. A total of 36 heifers were used, 18 from each breed, randomly distributed in a completely randomized design, in a 2 x 3 factorial scheme.

The forage digestibility decreases in the dry season. Fungus isolates from the gastrointestinal tract of healthy sheep were evaluated. Aspergillus terreus isolate was identified by analysis of rDNA and encoding β‐tubulin gene and Trichoderma longibrachiatum was identified by analysis of rDNA and elongation factor 1‐α gene. The T.

Reactivity of Nellore steers in two feedlot housing systems and its relationship with plasmatic cortisol [PDF]
To evaluate reactivity to assess the temperament of Nellore steers in two feedlot housing systems (group pen or individual pen) and its relationship with plasmatic cortisol, 36 experimental units were observed five times at 28-day intervals of weight ...

Using structural equation models, we show that Malagasy assemblages with higher human pressure have smaller maximum seed sizes, especially through downsizing of extant frugivores. Furthermore, among assemblages with ‘mega‐seeded’ plants (i.e., seeds that cannot be swallowed by any extant Malagasy frugivore), larger seed sizes are associated with larger
