Lymphosarcoma in Indian Zebu Cattle

The incidence of bovine lymphosarcoma was studied in 79,492 male adult Indian cattle of 7 different breeds and crossbreeds from one abattoir in Bombay. One of 23,066 Malvi animals, a bullock, was detected with multicentric LS with symmetrically enlarged lymph nodes and spleen.

Observations on the ovaries of zebu cattle in Northern Nigeria

A morphological study was carried out on ovaries of 236 local zebu cattle. Ovaries from 189 of the cattle were found to be abnormal grossly. Histological observations indicated changes due to old age. The findings are discussed in relation to the occurrence of low reproductive efficiency in cattle in Northern Nigeria.

Response of Nigerian zebu cattle to Zeranol implants

The effect of Zeranol, an anabolic agent, on the weight gains of Nigerian zebu fattening bulls was investigated over a period of 16 weeks. Implanted Sokoto Gudali and White Fulani bulls showed average daily weight gains of 0.5 and 0.49 kg respectively as compared to 0.47 and 0.41 kg by non-implanted counterparts.

SummaryBlood samples, collected from 143 Boran and 34 Dawara adult cattle, belonging to a state farm in Mogadiscio, have been tested for red cell antigens with 40 cattle reagents and for Hb, CA, Tf, Alb and Ami types.Gene frequencies are presented and the results indicate that the two breeds are very similar in all the systems studied.

Heifers were placed in the breeding pastures as 2-yr-olds and exposed to bulls for 75 d.
