Digital zenith camera VESTA and its applications

2021

The portable digital zenith camera (DZC) VESTA (VErtical by STArs) determines the deflection of vertical (DoV) components as the difference between the direction to the ellipsoidal zenith (calculated from reference star observations, fixing precise time moment and site coordinates) and the direction of the plumb line, which is ...

Counting pedestrians with a zenithal arrangement of depth cameras

Machine Vision and Applications, 2015
Counting people is a basic operation in applications that include surveillance, marketing, services, and others. Recently, computer vision techniques have emerged as a non-intrusive, cost-effective, and reliable solution to the problem of counting pedestrians. In this article, we introduce a system capable of counting people using a cooperating network

The zenith‐camera for geographic location

Eos, Transactions American Geophysical Union, 1944
Engineers and astronomers are already familiar with the use of the transit and theodolite for field‐determination of latitude and longitude. In recent years the prismatic astrolabe or equiangulator has come into extensive use by the Army Air Forces for the determination of geographic positions [see Trans. Amer. Geophys. Union, Part II, pp. 199–207,1942]

Zenith object detector (ZOD)

ACM SIGGRAPH 2014 Studio, 2014
This project introduces a procedure for creating 3D full body scans utilizing a low-cost commodity-based infra-red(IR) sensor and multiple consumer grade cameras. The project, entitled The Zenith Object Detector, uses a home built series of concentric octagons to mount both Asus Xtion structured IR light sensors with color capture capacity, as well as ...

Fundamental position astronomy and transportable Zenith Cameras

International Astronomical Union Colloquium, 1978
AbstractIn continuation of previous works of the author (Astronomische Station of the Technical University of Hannover: Monographie 1973; Supplement I, no. 9, 1974; Suppl. II, no. 10, 1976; Suppl. Ill in preparation), a completely systematic solution of the “Fundamental Positional Astronomy” and “Transportable Zenith Cameras” is given as a new form of ...

Digital zenith camera VESTA and vertical deflection test site measurement results

2023
Digital zenith camera (DZC) VESTA (VErtical by STArs) was developed at the University of Latvia and has achieved an accuracy of 0.1 arcseconds.Currently, a detailed analysis of optimal measurement conditions and potential error sources of DZC VESTA is performed.

The digital zenith camera as an additional technique for quasi-geoid model determination of Latvia

2020

The digital zenith camera VESTA (VErtical by STArs) was designed by the Institute of Geodesy and Geoinformatics (GGI) of the University of Latvia and completed in 2016. By 2020 more than 400 terrestrial vertical deflection measurements were observed in the territory of Latvia.
