Zinc Dialkyldithiophosphate-Dispersant Interactions: Effects on Solution Behavior and Wear
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1992<div class="htmlview paragraph">Interactions between a Zinc dialkyldithiophosphate (ZDP) and three different commercially available succinimide dispersants were observed through changes in solutions behavior, as determined by viscometry and Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and four-ball tests.</div> <div class="htmlview ...

The antiwear property of zinc dialkyldithiophosphates in used engine oils
Wear, 1983Abstract The change in the lubrication properties of vehicle engine oils with driving distance was studied by using a cross-pin type of lubricant tester and a Fourier transform IR spectrometer. The effect of the thermal decomposition of zinc dialkyldithiophosphates (ZnDTPs) on their antiwear property was also examined.

Study of zinc dialkyldithiophosphate using electrochemical techniques
2002Electrochemical techniques have been applied to study the redox behaviour of the antiwear additive zinc diisooctyldithiophosphate (ZDDP) in an ester base fluid and to investigate the influence of applied electrode potential on its friction and wear properties.

Electroless Generation of Phosphate Films on Metals from Zinc Dialkyldithiophosphates
Chemistry of Materials, 2000An electroless (solution growth) technique based on the thermooxidative decomposition of zinc dialkyldithiophosphates (ZDDPs) in solution, has been developed for the deposition of thin phosphate films on a wide variety of metals including gold and silver.

Study of zinc dialkyldithiophosphate in di-ethylhexyl sebacate using electrochemical techniques
Tribology Letters, 2006Electrochemical techniques have been applied to detect the redox behaviour of the antiwear additive zinc dithiophosphate (ZDDP) in di-ethylhexyl sebacate (DEHS) base fluid solution and to study the interaction of ZDDP with ferrous surfaces. Using cyclic voltammetry it has been shown that the ZDDP is oxidised in a chemically-irreversible process at ...

Improving the aging resistance of asphalt by addition of Zinc dialkyldithiophosphate
Fuel, 2006The aging properties of asphalts are evaluated using high pressure-gel permeation chromatography (HP-GPC) and Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The effect of a small amount (1 wt%) of zinc dialkyldithiophosphate (ZDDP) on the chemical and physical properties, and molecular weight distribution of asphalts is studied.

Tribology Letters, 2002
The authors performed ball-on-disk and four-ball tests. The former gave much less severe conditions than the latter. A ZDDP-containing package, blended with a mineral base oil, was tested. Completely different mechanisms of ZDDP conversions were observed. During ball-on-disk tests, ZDDP undergoes partial tribochemical decomposition.

Contribution of Phosphorus to the Antiwear Performance of Zinc Dialkyldithiophosphates
A S L E Transactions, 1985Four-ball wear studies show that the antiwear (low load) performance of zinc dialkyldithiophosphates (ZDPs) can be duplicated by combining a dialkyl acid phosphate and a soluble zinc compound. Antiwear performance of acid phosphates was independent of chain length for C8 to C18 but affected by chain branching and ring substitution.

Journal of Separation Science, 2003
AbstractAn automated HPLC separation methodology was developed for the preparative separation of ZnDTP components from commercial lubricant antiwear additives. Using silica columns that can be reactivated by elution with appropriate solvents, gram quantities of additives can be isolated.
