The Distribution of Zinc in Low-Friction ZDDP Tribofilm on Iron Oxide

open access: yesTribology Online, 2009
To develop a low-friction and low-wear tribo-system for engine components, the authors have been studying the ZDDP tribofilm formed on iron oxide. Tribotests on iron-oxide / steel sliding pairs were performed in PAO with 1 mass% ZDDP.

Surface Fatigue Behaviour of a WC/aC:H Thin-film and the Tribochemical Impact of Zinc Dialkyldithiophosphate.

open access: yesACS Applied Materials and Interfaces, 2019
In wind turbine gearboxes, (near-)surface initiated fatigue is attributed to be the primary failure mechanism. In this work, the surface fatigue of a hydrogenated tungsten carbide/amorphous carbon (WC/aC:H) thin-film was tested under severe cyclic tribo ...

Oil-soluble ionic liquids as antiwear and extreme pressure additives in poly-α-olefin for steel/steel contacts

open access: yesFriction, 2017
To enhance the lubricating and extreme pressure (EP) performance of base oils, two types of oil-soluble ionic liquids (ILs) with similar anion albeit dissimilar cations were synthesized. The physical properties of the prepared ILs were measured.

The Synergistic Antiwear Performances of Organic Titanium Compounds Containing Sulfur with Borate Ester Additive

open access: yesJournal of Spectroscopy, Volume 2018, Issue 1, 2018., 2018
Two oil‐soluble organic titanium compounds (OTCs) such as titanium dialkyldithiocarbamate (TiDDC) and sulfurized titanate (TiS) were synthesized and identified by Fourier‐transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The antiwear and extreme pressure properties of TiDDC or TiS with borate ester containing nitrogen (BNO) additive in mineral base oils were ...

Elucidating the Friction Catalytic Lubrication Mechanism of Ag Nanoparticles Loaded on MOFs

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, Volume 12, Issue 17, September 8, 2025.
A novel Ag@Co‐BDC nanocomposite lubricating additive is successfully synthesized, which effectively promoted interfacial tribochemical reactions to form a protective tribofilm during friction, resulting in a 16.7% reduction in friction coefficient and a 61.5% decrease in wear rate for base oil.

Influence of Antioxidant‐Enhanced Polymers in Bitumen Rheology and Bituminous Concrete Mixtures Mechanical Performance

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, Volume 2015, Issue 1, 2015., 2015
This paper evaluates the effect of polymer enhancement with antioxidant in the rheological properties of bitumen and mechanical properties of bituminous concrete mixture (BCM). In this study, two antioxidant‐enhanced polymers were utilized in mitigating bitumen hardening due to aging.

Vulcanization Temperature Impact on Cross‐Linking Density and Compression Set of Sulfur‐Cured Ethylene–Propylene–Diene Monomer

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, Volume 142, Issue 29, August 5, 2025.
ABSTRACT The aim of the research was to find a fast and reliable measurement method for the prediction of functional properties such as compression set (CS) of rubber profiles. Research shows that the best method for testing network density and crosslinks structure for a finished product, such as complex car seals, is equilibrium swelling. Measurements

Surface Analysis of Chain Joint Components after Tribological Load and Usage of Antiwear Additives

open access: yesConference Papers in Science, Volume 2015, Issue 1, 2015., 2015
Wear in chain joints leads to an increased clearance and thus an elongation of the entire chain which determines the lifetime of the chain. This particularly applies for chains that are used in timing chain drives. The aim of this study was to investigate especially the influences of lubricant additives and a contamination with carbon black on the ...

Functional Electrolyte Additives: A Pinch of Salt/Solvent to an Electrolyte for High Energy Density Lithium‐Ion and Lithium–Metal Batteries

open access: yesSmall, Volume 21, Issue 34, August 28, 2025.
Electrolytes, often termed as the “blood” of battery play a decisive role in determining their performance metrics. This review thoroughly analyzes the role of functional electrolyte additives improving the performance and safety of Li‐ion/Li–metal batteries involving film formation, overcharge control, wide temperature and voltage operation ...

Spectroscopic and Thermogravimetric Investigation of Cd(II) Dinonyldithiophosphate: Removal of Cadmium from Aqueous Solutions

open access: yesJournal of Chemistry, Volume 2015, Issue 1, 2015., 2015
Dinonyldithiophosphoric acid (HDDTP) was synthesised from the reaction of phosphorus pentasulphide and nonyl alcohol. Dinonyldithiophosphate complex of cadmium [Cd(DDTP)2] was prepared by mixing solutions of Cd(II) with HDDTP in ethanol at room temperature. The acid and its complex were characterised by elemental analysis and spectroscopy.
