Oriented Zinc Metal Anode Based on Directional Recognition and Assembly

Small, 2023
AbstractThe practical application of aqueous zinc batteries are highly limited by unsatisfied Zn anodes for the unavoidable dendrite growth and side reactions. Crystal orientation engineering is an effective way to overcome these inherent drawbacks.

Spirally Grown Zinc‐Cobalt Alloy Layer Enables Highly Reversible Zinc Metal Anodes

Advanced Functional Materials, 2023
AbstractAlthough Zn‐ion batteries have gained extensive attention, it persistently suffers from uncontrolled dendrite growth and severe side reactions on zinc (Zn) anodes. Here, a spirally grown 3D ZnCo overlayer is designed on one side of commercial zinc foil by means of constant‐current electrodeposition to address these challenges. In contrast to Zn

Strategically Constructing a Hydrophilic Interface toward Ultrastable Zinc Metal Anodes

ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, 2023
Aqueous zinc-ion storage devices have received increasing attention due to their inherent safety, high capacity, and cost-effectiveness. However, problems such as uneven Zn deposition, limited diffusion kinetics, and corrosion greatly reduce the cycling performance of zinc anodes.

A Lean‐Zinc and Zincophilic Anode for Highly Reversible Zinc Metal Batteries

Advanced Functional Materials, 2023
AbstractLean‐zinc anode is a promising configuration that can eliminate the trade‐off of energy density and cycle lifetime of zinc metal (Zn0) batteries. However, there are rare investigations of lean‐Zn anode designs and it remains a grand change to sustain high zinc reversibility under lean zinc conditions.

Challenges and Strategies for Zinc Metal Anode

Batteries & Supercaps
AbstractThe primary aim of this concept is to point the overlooked critical issues, and summary the crucial roles of regulating the electric double layer (EDL), zinc ion transfer number and electrolyte design, thereby enhancing the stability of zinc metal anodes and expediting the commercialization of aqueous zinc‐ion batteries.Aqueous zinc‐ion ...

Chemical Enhancement of Metallized Zinc Anode Performance

CORROSION 1998, 1998
Abstract Galvanic current delivered to reinforced concrete by a metallized zinc anode was studied relative to the humidity of its environment and periodic direct wetting. Current decreased quickly at low humidity to values unlikely to meet accepted cathodic protection criteria, but could be easily restored by direct wetting of the anode.

Enabling uniform zinc deposition by zwitterion additives in aqueous zinc metal anodes

Journal of Materials Chemistry A, 2023
This article proposes a new electrolyte engineering strategy with “zwitterion” molecules, which reduce side reactions by adsorbing onto the zinc surface. The 6-aminohexanoic acid enables uniform zinc deposition and reduces zinc dendrite growth.

Design Strategies toward High‐Utilization Zinc Anodes for Practical Zinc‐Metal Batteries

Chemistry – A European Journal
AbstractAqueous Zn‐metal batteries (AZMBs) hold a promise as the next‐generation energy storage devices due to their low cost and high specific energy. However, the actual energy density falls far below the requirements of commercial AZMBs due to the use of excessive Zn as anode and the associated issues including dendritic growth and side reactions ...

Organic Cations Texture Zinc Metal Anodes for Deep Cycling Aqueous Zinc Batteries

Advanced Materials
AbstractManipulating the crystallographic orientation of zinc (Zn) metal to expose more (002) planes is promising to stabilize Zn anodes in aqueous electrolytes. However, there remain challenges involving the non‐epitaxial electrodeposition of highly (002) textured Zn metal and the maintenance of (002) texture under deep cycling conditions.
