Cathodoluminescence properties of zinc oxide nanoparticles

physica status solidi (a), 2004
Zinc oxide nano-particles (25 nm) have been investigated by cathodoluminescence spectroscopy (300 nm-1700 nm) at 80 K and 300 K following thermal annealing in high purity H 2 /N 2 , N 2 , O 2 and Ar gaseous atmospheres. The intensity of the ZnO near band edge peak was significantly increased after heat treatment in hydrogen.

Synthesis and Antimicrobial Properties of Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles

Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, 2020
With increase in incidence of multidrug resistant pathogens, there is a demand to adapt newer approaches in order to combat these diseases as traditional therapy is insufficient for their treatment. Use of nanotechnology provides a promising alternative as antimicrobial agents as against traditional antibiotics.

A review: zinc oxide nanoparticles – friends or enemies?

International Journal of Environmental Health Research, 2020
Modern nanotechnology allows obtaining zinc oxide nanomaterials with unique properties that let its use in a wide range of commercial applications. Direct contact with these particles as well as their release into the environment is almost inevitable. This review aims to consider whether the toxicity of zinc oxide nanoparticles found in numerous test ...

Electrical Bistability in Zinc Oxide Nanoparticle-Polymer Composites

Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, 2007
The article reports observed electrical bistability in thin films of ZnO nanoparticles embedded in an insulating polymer matrix. From the current–voltage and impedance characteristics, they studied transport mechanisms involved in the two conducting-states. The electrical bistability in such films has been associated with a memory phenomenon.

Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles Impair Bacterial Clearance by Macrophages

Nanomedicine, 2014
The extensive development of nanoparticles (NPs) and their widespread employment in daily life have led to an increase in environmental concentrations of substances that may pose a biohazard to humans. The aim of this work was to examine the effects of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) on the host's pulmonary immune system response to nontypeable ...

Microwave-Assisted Synthesis of Ultrasmall Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles

Langmuir, 2019
We report on ultrasmall zinc oxide single-crystalline nanoparticles of narrow size distribution and long-term colloidal stability. These oleate-stabilized nanoparticles were synthesized using microwave-assisted synthesis for 5 min, corresponding to a 99% decrease in synthesis time, when compared to the conventional synthesis method.

Toxicity of zinc oxide nanoparticles through oral route

Toxicology and Industrial Health, 2011
This experiment was aimed to determine the significance of dose by comparing acute oral toxicological potential of nano-sized zinc oxide (20 nm) with its micro-sized zinc oxide. Sprague Dawley rats, 8 to 9 weeks old, were administered with 5, 50, 300, 1000 and 2000 mg/kg body weight (b.w.) of nano- and micro-sized zinc oxide suspended in distilled ...
