Lamina architecture and anatomy in the Heliconiaceae and Musaceae (Zingiberales) [PDF]

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Botany, 1991
Lamina size, thickness, venation, and anatomy are studied in 15 species of Heliconia (Heliconiaceae), 3 species of Musa, and 1 of Ensete (Musaceae). The most typical laminas of these genera are large and oblong and have an acute or irregular apex and an asymmetrical cordate base.

Phylogenetic Analysis of the Zingiberales Based on rbcL Sequences

open access: yesAnnals of the Missouri Botanical Garden, 1993
Morphological data have been used previously to construct phylogenies of the eight families of the Zingiberales, one of the most widely accepted monophyletic groups of flowering plants. To provide additional support for phylogenetic relationships within the order, and placement of the order among monocots, we present a parsimony analysis of DNA ...

Natural history of Belonuchus Nordmann spp. and allies (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae) in Heliconia L. (Zingiberales: Heliconiaceae) flower bracts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Adults, and in some species larvae, of several members of Belonuchus Nordmann (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Staphylininae) and a few related genera seem to be to various degrees consistently associated with flower bracts of the genus Heliconia ...

A Group 6 LEA Protein Plays Key Roles in Tolerance to Water Deficit, and in Maintaining the Glassy State and Longevity of Seeds

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, Volume 48, Issue 9, Page 6874-6896, September 2025.
ABSTRACT Plants have a wide range of adaptive and protective mechanisms to cope with dehydration. Central in these processes are the Late Embryogenesis Abundant (LEA) proteins, whose levels notably increase in response to dehydration during seed development and vegetative tissues.

A Short‐Read Amplicon Sequencing Protocol and Bioinformatic Pipeline for Ecological Surveillance of Dipteran Disease Vectors

open access: yesMolecular Ecology Resources, Volume 25, Issue 6, August 2025.
ABSTRACT Vector control remains an important strategy worldwide to prevent human infection with pathogens transmitted by arthropods. Vector control strategies rely on accurate identification of vector taxa along with vector‐specific biological indicators such as feeding ecology, infection prevalence and insecticide resistance.
