The complete mitogenome of Ginkgo-toothed beaked whale ( Mesoplodon ginkgodens ) (Chordata: Ziphiidae)

Mitochondrial DNA Part A, 2015
In this study, we used the next-generation sequencing method to deduce the complete mitogenome of Ginkgo-toothed beaked whale (Mesoplodon ginkgodens) for the first time. The nucleotide composition was asymmetric (33.3% A, 25.3% C, 12.6% G, and 28.7% T) with an overall GC content of 37.9%. The length of the assembled mitogenome was 16,339 bp and follows

Strandings of Beaked Whales (Ziphiidae) in Galicia (NW Spain) between 1990 and 2013

Journal of the Marine Biological Association of the United Kingdom, 2015
In the coast of Galicia an average of 200 stranded cetaceans are reported annually. From 1990 to 2013, 21 individuals of four species of the family Ziphiidae were found: 15 Cuvier's beaked whales (Ziphius cavirostris), two Sowerby's beaked whales (Mesoplodon bidens), one True's beaked whale (Mesoplodon mirus) and one Blainville's beaked whale ...

Characterization of the complete mitochondrial genome of Stejneger’s beaked whale, Mesoplodon stejnegeri (Cetacea: Ziphiidae)

Conservation Genetics Resources, 2017
Stejneger’s beaked whale (Mesoplodon stejnegeri, True in Proc US Natl Mus 8:584–585, 1885) is one of the least known cold temperate and subarctic species of the beaked whales (Zhiphiidae) found in the North Pacific Ocean, and its complete mitogenome has yet to be investigated. Herein, we report the complete mitogenome of M. stejnegeri stranded in South

STATUS, RELATIONSHIPS, AND DISTRIBUTION OF MESOPLODON BOWDOINI ANDREWS, 1908 (CETACEA: ZIPHIIDAE)

Marine Mammal Science, 2001
AbstractThe specific status of Mesoplodon bowdoini Andrews is reviewed and new information on its morphology, reproduction, and distribution is presented. This species of beaked whale, known only from 35 specimens, has a southern, circumpolar distribution north of the Antarctic convergence, between 32° and 54°30′S. It shares with M.
