Zirconium boride as a novel negative catalyst for vanadium redox flow battery
Ceramics International, 2021Abstract Poor hydrophilicity and low electrochemical activity of carbon-based electrode materials limit the wide application of vanadium redox flow battery (VRFB). The electrochemical properties of electrodes are generally optimized by acid treatment, heat treatment or the introduction of catalysts. Nowadays, there are mainly three types of catalysts

Zinc oxide film growth on zirconium boride
Superlattices and Microstructures, 2006Abstract ZnO film growth on sapphire and zirconium boride single crystals by the molecular beam epitaxy method was investigated. A Zn metal film could not be grown on sapphire substrates at room temperature, while an incommensurate Zn film could be grown on a zirconium boride substrate. The incommensurate Zn film could be oxidized by molecular oxygen

A reactive force-field for Zirconium and Hafnium Di-Boride
Computational Materials Science, 2013Abstract Zirconium and Hafnium Di-Boride are the two major material systems that are of critical importance for applications in ultra-high temperature environments where both oxidation and mechanical damage mechanisms (such as creep) are operative.

X-ray photoelectron spectroscopic study of the surface of borided zirconium
Journal of the Chemical Society, Faraday Transactions 1: Physical Chemistry in Condensed Phases, 1984X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (X.p.s.) using depth profiling and angle-resolved studies has been used to investigate the surface of borided zirconium. The study shows that there is considerable surface oxidation which may seriously limit some practical applications of the borided sample.

Synthesis of zirconium, hafnium and their ternary borides by a polymer complex route
Journal of Sol-Gel Science and Technology, 2015Submicrometer (100–500 nm) zirconium diboride powders were synthesized by a polymer complex route using simple and mainly nontoxic starting reagents. In this aqueous process, chitosan was used as a coordinating polymer to immobilize the metal ion and boric acid in the molecular so as to inhibit the segregation of various components in the dried gel ...

Gas-impermeable protective thermocouple sheaths from zirconium boride
Soviet Powder Metallurgy and Metal Ceramics, 1965A study was made with the object of producing gas-impermeable sheaths from zirconium boride with 5% Mo additions and of testing such sheaths under industrial conditions. It is shown that the liquid phase which forms during sintering as a result of the reaction of molybdenum with zirconium boride gives rise to substantial shrinkage and helps to obtain ...

Nanotechnology for Encapsulating Zirconium Boride upon Formation of Heat-Resistant Coatings
Glass Physics and Chemistry, 2005The reaction formation of ZrB2- and SiO2-based composite materials and coatings upon heat treatment of the initial components in open air is investigated. It is shown that the glass melt formed in the course of the chemical reaction encapsulates zirconium boride particles, thus imparting high-temperature strength to the composite material.

Carbothermic method of preparation of chromium, molybdenum, and zirconium borides
Soviet Powder Metallurgy and Metal Ceramics, 19661. The feasibility was established of producing, on an industrial scale, chromium, molybdenum, and zirconium borides from oxides of these elements, boric acid, and lampblack. 2. The influence of charge composition, reaction temperature, and boat travel velocity in the furnace on the composition of the resulting chromium, molybdenum, and ...

Deposition of zirconium boride thin films by direct current triode sputtering
Journal of Vacuum Science & Technology A: Vacuum, Surfaces, and Films, 1987Specular, crack-free thin films of the refractory conductor zirconium boride have been deposited for possible applications in combined contact/diffusion barrier metallization schemes. Films were deposited by dc triode sputtering, which allowed the independent study of the effects of sputtering pressure, target voltage, and current on the film ...
