Surface Charges Guided Quasi‐TEM‐mode Microwave Propagation along Dielectric Nanowire

open access: yesAdvanced Physics Research, EarlyView.
According to Maxwell's equations, a single‐conductor transmission line cannot allow TEM‐mode electromagnetic wave propagation, however, this is based upon the assumption that dielectric material is isolated from the environment. In practice, surface electrostatic charges widely existed in nano‐materials with large surface‐to‐volume ratio.

Physical and Electrical Performance of Vapor–Solid Grown ZnO Straight Nanowires

open access: yesNanoscale Research Letters, 2008
Physical and electrical properties of wurtzitic ZnO straight nanowires grown via a vapor–solid mechanism were investigated. Raman spectrum shows four first-order phonon frequencies and a second-order Raman frequency of the ZnO nanowires. Electrical

Defect properties of ZnO nanowires

open access: yesAIP Conference Proceedings, 2014
In this work we examined optical and defect properties of as-grown and Ni-coated ZnO nanowires (NWs) grown by rapid thermal chemical vapor deposition by means of optically detected magnetic resonance (ODMR). Several grown-in defects are revealed by monitoring visible photoluminescence (PL) emissions and are attributed to Zn vacancies, O vacancies, a ...

Mechanical properties of ceria nanorods and nanochains; The effect of dislocations, grain-boundaries and oriented attachment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We predict that the presence of extended defects can reduce the mechanical strength of a ceria nanorod by 70%. Conversely, the pristine material can deform near its theoretical strength limit.
