Oral flora of domestic cats in Hong Kong: Identification of antibiotic‐resistant strains
Abstract Background As the clinical outcome of bite‐associated infection is related to the oral commensals, evaluating their composition and antibiotic susceptibility pattern can provide more information for the antibiotic treatment of wound infections and increase the awareness of the multidrug‐resistant bacteria in cat oral flora. Aims This study was

Dispersion of motile bacteria in a porous medium [PDF]
Understanding flow and transport of bacteria in porous media is crucial to technologies such as bioremediation, biomineralization or enhanced oil recovery. While physicochemical bacteria filtration is well-documented, recent studies showed that bacterial motility plays a key role in the transport process.

Domestic reptiles as source of zoonotic bacteria: A mini review
Captive reptiles, always more often present in domestic environment as pets, may harbor and excrete a large variety of zoonotic pathogens. Among them, Salmonella is the most well-known agent, whereas there are very scant data about infections by mycobacteria, chlamydiae and leptospirae in cold-blooded animals.

Identification of potential antigenic peptides of Brucella through proteome and peptidome
Based on proteomics and peptidomics, we identified 35 peptides from the Brucella proteome, which have the ability to bind MHC molecules and have the potential to be used in vaccine design. In addition, we also found four Brucella proteins containing the identified MHC‐I and MHC‐II binding peptides, which may be good candidate targets for designing ...

An open debate on SARS-CoV-2's proximal origin is long overdue [PDF]
There is a near consensus view that SARS-CoV-2 has a natural zoonotic origin; however, several characteristics of SARS-CoV-2 taken together are not easily explained by a natural zoonotic origin hypothesis. These include: a low rate of evolution in the early phase of transmission; the lack of evidence of recombination events; a high pre-existing binding

Identification of inhibitors of the Salmonella FraB deglycase, a drug target
A high‐throughput screen was used to identify inhibitors of Salmonella FraB, a drug target. Characterization of top hits (identified after an additional counter screen) revealed that some triazolidines, thiadiazolidines, and triazolothiadiazoles are mixed‐type inhibitors of FraB.

Autochthonous infection with Ehrlichia Canis and Hepatozoon Canis in dogs from Serbia
Dogs are included in the study based on the presence of a minimum of three clinical and/or pathological findings that could be associated with canine ehrlichiosis and hepatozoonosis. The presence of the pathogens was confirmed in three animals (3/11, 27.3%), Ehrlichia canis was confirmed in one dog, as well as Hepatozoon canis, while one dog was co ...

Evolutionary trend of SARS-CoV-2 inferred by the homopolymeric nucleotide repeats [PDF]
Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is the causative agent of the current global COVID-19 pandemic, in which millions of lives have been lost. Understanding the zoonotic evolution of the coronavirus may provide insights for developing effective vaccines, monitoring the transmission trends, and preventing new zoonotic infections.
