Abiotic and Biotic Factors Affecting Resting Spore Formation in the Mite Pathogen Neozygites floridana

open access: yesInternational Journal of Microbiology, Volume 2013, Issue 1, 2013., 2013
Neozygites floridana is an obligate mite pathogenic fungus in the Entomophthoromycota. It has been suggested that resting spores of this fungus are produced as a strategy to survive adverse conditions. In the present study, possible mechanisms involved in the regulation of resting spore formation were investigated in the hosts Tetranychus urticae and ...

Competition between isolates of Zoophthora radicans co-infecting Plutella xylostella populations

open access: yesJournal of Invertebrate Pathology, 2013
Interactions between Zoophthora radicans isolates were studied in vitro and in vivo during infection of Plutella xylostella larvae. We distinguished between isolates within infected hosts using PCR-RFLP. Isolates obtained from P. xylostella larvae (NW386 and NW250) were more virulent than isolates from other insect hosts.

RAPD-PCR for Identification of Zoophthora radicans Isolates in Biological Control of the Potato Leafhopper

open access: yesJournal of Invertebrate Pathology, 1995
Biological control studies require the ability to distinguish released pathogens from locally occurring isolates of the same species. We have developed a technique that differentiates genotypes using random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) for the apomictic species Zoophthora radicans (Zygomycota: Entomophthorales), a pathogen of the potato leafhopper,

Stabilizing adaptation in an invasive species: Alfalfa weevil as a case study

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, Volume 27, Issue 4, Page 573-589, November 2025.
Comparison of thermal thresholds, fecundity and longevity across three alfalfa weevil strains (California in the United States, Hamadan in Iran, Ebro Valley in Spain) reveal significant differences in demographic parameters. Weather‐driven physiologically based demographic models (PBDMs) developed from life table data explore strain adaptation to ...

Wpływ wybranych środków ochrony roślin na wzrost grzybów owadobójczych z rzędu owadomorkowców (Entomophthorales)

open access: yesAgronomy Science, 2016
Intensywne stosowanie pestycydów jest nadal najczęściej wybieraną metodą zwalczania agrofagów w uprawach rolniczych. Dotychczasowe wyniki badań wskazują, iż pestycydy mogą wywierać negatywny wpływ na rozwój, potencjał infekcyjny i przeżywalność grzybów ...

Selection of an Isolate of Zoophthora radicans (Zygomycetes: Entomophthorales) for Biocontrol of the Diamondback Moth Plutella xylostella (Lepidoptera: Yponomeutidae)

open access: yesJournal of Invertebrate Pathology, 1993
Abstract The entomophthoralean fungus Zoophthora radicans is a potential biocontrol agent for larvae of the diamondback moth Plutella xylostella . Preliminary bioassays were done on 23 isolates of Z. radicans from both homologous and heterologous hosts and dose-mortality studies done on those showing most promise.
