A novel mitovirus associated with the fungal entomopathogen Zoophthora radicans [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE
Metatranscriptome sequencing has emerged as a powerful tool for uncovering viral diversity in insects and their associated microbes. To explore viruses linked to the pea aphid (Acyrthosiphon pisum), we performed metatranscriptome sequencing on field ...

Natural occurrence of infections of the spittlebug Philaenus spumarius by the entomopathogenic fungi Zoophthora radicans and Batkoa major in Northwest Italy [PDF]

open access: yesMycoKeys
An infection event of the spittlebug Philaenus spumarius (Hemiptera, Aphrophoridae) has been described, for the first time, in northwest Italy. The causative agents were two entomopathogenic fungi belonging to Entomophthorales, specifically Zoophthora ...

HABILIDADE DE INFECÇÃO DE ISOLADOS DE Zoophthora radicans SOBRE Empoasca kraemeri

open access: yesScientia Agricola, 1996

First reports of Zoophthora radicans (Entomophthoraceae) and Metarhizium rileyi (Clavicipitaceae) as pathogens of Plutella xylostella (Lepidoptera: Plutellidae) in Argentina [PDF]

open access: yesRevista Mexicana de Biodiversidad, 2018
Plutella xylostella (L.), diamondback moth (DBM), is considered among the 20 most resistant arthropods in the world. Entomopathogenic fungi are important mortality factors of lepidopteran in the field.

Natural occurrence of Zoophthora radicans (Entomophthorales: Entomophthoraceae) on Thaumastocoris peregrinus (Heteroptera: Thaumastocoridae), an invasive pest recently found in Brazil

open access: yesJournal of Invertebrate Pathology, 2012
Occurrence of Zoophthora radicans infecting nymphs and adults of Thaumastocoris peregrinus Carpintero and Dellape, 2006 is reported in Brazil. This is a new record of host for this fungal species and the first fungal pathogen associated with this pest worldwide. Infection of Z. radicans on T.

Use of a Novel Sporulation Monitor to Quantify the EVects of Formulation and Storage on Conidiation by Dried Mycelia of the Entomopathogenic Fungus Zoophthora radicans

open access: yesBiocontrol Science and Technology, 1998
A novel piece of equipment, the sporulation monitor, is described for the comparison of conidia production from mycelia receiving diVerent formulation and storage treatments. This equipment was used to compare the viability of Zoophthora radicans mycelial samples treated either with 10% maltose solution or with distilled water before drying and storage

Entomopathogenic Fungi as Mortality Agents in Insect Populations: A Review. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
We provide a quantitative review of studies reporting mortality attributable to entomopathogenic fungi in field populations of insects. Overall, data on this subject are surprisingly limited. Nevertheless, they support the conclusion that the assemblages of pathogenic fungi associated with insect populations are diverse but the prevalence mostly ...

Abiotic and Biotic Factors Affecting Resting Spore Formation in the Mite Pathogen Neozygites floridana. [PDF]

open access: yesInt J Microbiol, 2013
Neozygites floridana is an obligate mite pathogenic fungus in the Entomophthoromycota. It has been suggested that resting spores of this fungus are produced as a strategy to survive adverse conditions. In the present study, possible mechanisms involved in the regulation of resting spore formation were investigated in the hosts Tetranychus urticae and ...

Effect of temperature on the in vitro radial growth of Zoophthora radicans and Pandora blunckii, two co-occurring fungal pathogens of the diamondback moth Plutella xylostella

open access: yesBioControl, 2007
The effect of four different temperatures (15, 20, 25 and 30°C) on the in vitro growth of 19 isolates of Pandora blunckii and 14 isolates of Zoophthora radicans from Plutella xylostella larvae was investigated. Both species grew more at 20 and 25°C than the other two temperatures. However, Z. radicans grew more than P. blunckii at 20 and 25°C.
