The state of knowledge on four families of Syngnathoidei fishes (Teleostei: Syngnathiformes): Aulostomidae, Centriscidae, Fistulariidae and Solenostomidae

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, Volume 109, Issue 1, Page 400-449, July 2026.
Abstract Knowledge on the ecology and life‐history traits of coastal marine species is vital to inform their conservation and management, especially as their coastal habitats come under increasing threats. However, such data have never been collated for four of the five families in the suborder Syngnathoidei—the close relatives of the better‐studied ...

The effects of the presence of seagrasses (Zostera SSP.) on benthic intertidal invertebrate communities [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
1. A quantitative investigation of the benthic macrofauna associated with seagrass swards was carried out over a period of four months, on the intertidal mud flats at Lindisfarne, Northumberland. 2.

Mechanisms of Resilience: Contextualizing the health of subtidal Zostera marina meadows around the San Juan Islands, Washington [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
Eelgrass (Zostera marina) is a vital ecosystem engineer in the Salish Sea and is established as an indicator for ecological health in Puget Sound. Declines within eelgrass meadows around the San Juan Islands from monitoring through 2000-2020 have gained ...

Distribution patterns of Syllidae (Annelida: Polychaeta) from seagrass (Zostera marina and Z. noltei) meadows in the Ensenada de O Grove (Galicia, NW Spain)

open access: yesScientia Marina, 2013
This paper describes the distribution and composition of the syllid fauna inhabiting seagrass meadows in the Ensenada de O Grove (NW Spain). Samples were collected on muddy sediments colonized by either Zostera marina L., Zostera noltei Hornemann or by a

Ocean warming indirectly affects seagrass performance through effects on sediment microbial communities

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 251, Issue 1, Page 191-206, July 2026.
Summary Belowground microbes are increasingly recognised as mediators of plant responses to stress, but it remains unclear whether the thermal histories of marine plants and their associated belowground microbes influence plant performance under ocean warming.

Terrestrial Laser Scanning Reveals Seagrass Microhabitat Structure on a Tideflat

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2015
Local-scale environmental heterogeneity can provide microhabitats that influence the spatial distribution of competing species. Microhabitats may influence the distribution of seagrasses along elevation gradients, but difficulty measuring intertidal ...

High‐Throughput Sequencing Analysis Reveals a Novel Varicosavirus Associated With Vein Yellowing Disease in Cucurbita pepo

open access: yesPlant Pathology, Volume 75, Issue 4, July‐August 2026.
In 2022, vein yellowing symptoms appeared in a zucchini crop in Greece. High‐throughput sequencing revealed the presence of a novel varicosavirus. There is a strong association of the novel virus, putatively named as cucurbit vein yellowing‐associated varicosavirus (CVYaV), with the symptoms observed on zucchini plants in the field.

Current European Labyrinthula zosterae Are Not Virulent and Modulate Seagrass (Zostera marina) Defense Gene Expression

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Pro- and eukaryotic microbes associated with multi-cellular organisms are receiving increasing attention as a driving factor in ecosystems. Endophytes in plants can change host performance by altering nutrient uptake, secondary metabolite production or defense mechanisms.

Caractérisation de la qualité biologique des Masses d'Eau Côtières. Cartographie des herbiers à Zostera noltei et Zostera marina du Lac d'Hossegor (MEC FRFC09) - Année 2021 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
In 2021, the eelgrass beds (Zostera marina and Zostera noltei) of Lake Hossegor were mapped using different measurement and validation methods. Their areas were calculated and compared to those of 2008 and 2013.
