Zr-poisoning of grain refiner particles studied in Al-Ni-Zr amorphous alloys

open access: yes, 2000
The poisoning mechanism of Zr was investigated using a metallic glass technique. Grain refining particles from a 5:1 TIBAL rod were embedded into a metallic glass produced by melt-spinning an Al87Ni10Zr3(at.%) alloy.

Particle‐Level ZrO2 Atomic Layer Deposition Enables Fast‐Cycling and Long‐Life Graphite Cathodes for Dual‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A spatial location of atomic layer deposition (ALD)‐derived ZrO2 coatings is demonstrated to be a critical design parameter for stabilizing graphite cathodes in DIBs. Direct particle‐level ALD (PALD) screening of representative metal oxides identified ZrO2 as the coating that provides the most favorable balance of high‐rate capability and interfacial ...

CO2 Sorption on Ti-, Zr-, and [Ti,Zr]-Pillared Montmorillonites

open access: yesMaterials
Montmorillonite is a layered clay mineral whose modification by pillaring, i.e., insertion of oxide nanoclusters between the layers, yields porous materials of great potential in sorption and catalysis. In the present study, an unrefined industrial bentonite from Kopernica (Slovakia), containing ca.

Zr-Catalyzed Olefin Alkylations and Allylic Substitution Reactions with Electrophiles

open access: yes, 2016
Disubstituted aryl olefins undergo efficient alkylations in the presence of 5 mol % Cp2ZrCl2, n-BuMgCl, and alkyl tosylates or alkyl bromides. In one class of reactions (Table ), the resulting alkyl zirconocene (initial alkylation product) undergoes β ...

Oxygen Evolution Electrocatalysts with Trinuclear, Mixed‐Valence Iron Motifs on Electronically Aligned Carbon Dots

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Trinuclear iron oxo‐bridged catalytic ensembles stabilized by aspartic‐acid‐derived carbon dots provide an effective platform for alkaline oxygen evolution. Mixed‐valence charge balancing, inner‐sphere charge transport, and work‐function alignment within the N/O‐rich carbon framework promote cooperative Fe‐site chemistry and efficient OER ...

Biodegradable Mg-Zr-Ca alloys for bone implant materials

open access: yes, 2012
Mg-Zr-Ca alloys were developed for new biodegradable bone implant materials. The microstructure and mechanical property of the Mg-xZr-yCa [x = 0·5, 1·0% and y = 1·0, 2·0% (wt-% hereafter)] alloys were characterised by optical microscopy, compressive and ...

Effects of Ti/Zr ratio and Nb content on shape memory effect and superelasticity in Ti–Zr–Nb–Sn alloys

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
In this study, the effects of the Ti/Zr ratio and Nb content on the martensitic transformation behavior, shape memory effect, and superelasticity of Ti–Zr–Nb–Sn alloys were systematically investigated.
