The Effect of Si and Zr on the Formation of Al3X and V-Phase in a 6005A Alloy with Sc—Part 1: Alloy Design and Heat Treatment Selection

open access: yesJournal of Manufacturing and Materials Processing
Adding Sc to 6xxx series alloys has led to inconsistent results due to the formation of the high-temperature, thermodynamically stable V-phase (AlSc2Si2).

Sub‐nm2 Ferroelectric Domains via Charged 180° Walls in ZrO2

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Ferroelectric ZrO2${\rm ZrO}_2$ thin films host closely spaced charged 180∘$^{\circ }$ domain walls that vertically compress polar domains beyond their lateral half‐unit‐cell limit. These head‐to‐head and tail‐to‐tail walls show distinct bulk‐like structures, natural oxygen‐mediated stabilization, and highly asymmetric mobility, highlighting new ...

Thermodynamic Assessment of the Fe–O–Zr, Cr–O–Zr and O–Sn–Zr Ternary Systems

open access: yesCalphad
The Fe-O-Zr, Cr-O-Zr, and O-Sn-Zr ternary systems have been modeled using the CALPHAD (CALculation of PHAse Diagrams) method to develop comprehensive thermodynamic descriptions essential for applications in nuclear materials and corrosion science. Experimental data from the literature and Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations were used within ...

From Dark Photocatalysis to Photobattery‐Type Operation: A Re‐Functionalized Ti‐MOF for Solar Energy Storage

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
ReCl47‐bpy is developed as a solar‐rechargeable, Re‐functionalized two‐dimensional metal–organic framework (MOF) for light‐driven charge storage and dark utilization. Re–bipyridine sites stabilize photoinduced electrons, enabling two complementary configurations: a MOF suspension for long‐lived charge retention and dark H2 evolution, and a spin‐coated ...

Effect of Nitrogen Doping on the Proton‐Irradiation Stability of Carbon Nanowalls

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Proton irradiation effects in carbon nanowalls are systematically compared with nitrogen‐doped counterparts over a wide fluence range. While both systems maintain structural integrity, nitrogen incorporation alters the functional response under irradiation.

Water vapor effect on high-temperature oxidation behavior of Fe3Al intermetallics

open access: yesScience and Technology of Advanced Materials, 2009
Fe3Al intermetallics (Fe3Al, Fe3Al-Zr, Fe3Al-Zr,Mo and Fe3Al-Zr,Mo,Nb) were oxidized at 950 °C in dry and humid (11 vol% water) synthetic air. Thermogravimetric measurements showed that the oxidation rates of the tested intermetallics were lower in humid

Interaction of hydrogen molecules with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons modified with Zr atoms: different modifications yield distinct properties

open access: yesResults in Surfaces and Interfaces
Ability of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), namely coronene (C24H12), circumcoronene (C54H18) and circumpyrene (C42H16) modified with Zr atoms to bind H2 molecules is investigated using density functional theory.
