Increasing the Wear Resistance of Stainless Steel Products by Depositing Modifying Coatings Based on Zirconium Nitride with the Addition of Niobium, Hafnium, and Titanium

open access: yesJournal of Manufacturing and Materials Processing
To increase wear resistance, (Zr,Nb)N, ZrN and (Zr,Hf)N coatings with columnar structures and (Zr,Ti)N and (Zr,Nb,Hf)N coatings with nanolayer structures were deposited on an AISI 321 stainless steel substrate.

Zr-Based Metal–Organic Framework Nanocrystals for Water Remediation [PDF]

open access: yes
A series of derivatives of the Zr-based MOF UiO-66 were synthesized, fully characterized, and tested for their efficiency in the adsorption and removal of the highly toxic elements lead (Pb(II)), cadmium (Cd(II)), arsenate As(V), and selenite Se(IV).

Enhancing Performance and Reliability of Hf1‐xZrxO2 Morphotropic Phase Boundary Films via Nanolaminate Structuring and Microwave Annealing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Hf–Zr–O‐based morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) thin films often suffer from limited endurance and poor uniformity due to intrinsic phase instability. This work proposes a nanolaminate architecture that spatially separates competing phases, stabilizes phase formation, and suppresses wake‐up‐induced degradation.

Effects of zirconium and strontium on the biocorrosion of Mg-Zr-Sr alloys for biodegradable implant applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The successful applications of magnesium (Mg) alloys as biodegradable orthopedic implants are mainly restricted due to their rapid degradation rate in the physiological environment, leading to a loss of mechanical integrity.

Using Coatings Based on the ZrN System to Improve the Corrosion Resistance of Stainless Steel Products

open access: yesJournal of Manufacturing and Materials Processing
This article investigates the anticorrosive properties of Zr-ZrN coatings, including Zr-(Zr,Hf)N, Zr-(Zr,Ti)N, Zr,Hf-(Zr,Hf,Nb)N, and Zr,Nb-(Zr,Nb)N, deposited on AISI 321 stainless steel substrates. The hardness and elasticity modulus of these coatings,

Benchmarking Coaxial and Angular Optical Emission Spectroscopy With Recommendations for Reliable Compositional In Situ Monitoring During Laser Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Real‐time insight into local chemistry is critical for reliable part quality in additive manufacturing, especially laser powder bed fusion (PBF‑LB/M), where rapid thermal cycles and localized evaporation can undermine part performance. Optical emission spectroscopy (OES) offers non‑intrusive, in situ plume monitoring, but detection geometry ...

Search for the double beta decay of Zr-96 with NEMO-3 and calorimeter development for the SuperNEMO experiment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Using 9.4 g of Zr-96 and 1221 days of data from the NEMO-3 detector corresponding to 0.031 kgy, the obtained 2vbb decay half-life measurement is [2.35 \pm 0.14(stat) \pm 0.16(syst)] \times 10_{19}yr. Different characteristics of the final state electrons
