Characterization and origin of failure of SiC/ZTA composites

International Journal of Refractory Metals and Hard Materials, 2018
Abstract Zirconia toughened alumina/SiC composites were prepared by hot pressing in vacuum under pressure of 30 MPa at 1500 up to 1650 °C. The effect of SiC content on the physical and mechanical properties of the sintered composites were studied in order to clarify the role of SiC on the properties of the above-mentioned composites.

The Synthesis of Calcium or Strontium Hexaluminate added ZTA Composite Ceramics

Journal of the European Ceramic Society, 1999
Abstract This paper proposes new preparation methods for alumina–tetragonal zirconia–Ca or Sr hexaluminate composites. Two powder preparation routes were explored. In the first, aluminium and calcium or strontium nitrate hydrates were added to alumina zirconia powders and in the second only calcium or strontium nitrate hydrates were used.

Pressureless sintered ATZ and ZTA ceramic composites

Journal of Materials Science, 1992
Alumina-20 wt% zirconia (ATZ) and zirconia-20 wt% alumina (ZTA) composites were prepared by conventional sintering of commercial powders, with average particle sizes in the range 0.35–0.70 μm. Sintering at 1650 °C for 4 h resulted in final densities up to 96%. Bending strength and hardness increased with the final density.

Consolidation features of ZTA-composite with eutectic composition

Conference Paper
ZTA are ceramics in the Al2O3–ZrO2–Y2O3–CeO2 system, which are characterized by high-temperature mechanical strength, heat resistance, wear resistance, oxidation resistance, low thermal conductivity, as well as a small ratio between the coefficients of thermal expansion of ZTA and metals [1].

The Fatigue Behaviour of Mg-PSZ and ZTA Ceramics

1996
The static and cyclic fatigue behaviour of partially stabilized zirconia (Mg-PSZ) with two different microstructures and zirconia toughened alumina (ZTA) containing 5, 15 or 30% zirconia has been studied. In both materials, the tetragonal zirconia was contained within a matrix material of different structure.
