Rapidly Fatal Pulmonary Mucormycosis With Pericardial Dissemination: A Case Report and Imaging Insights. [PDF]

open access: yesCase Rep Infect Dis
Mucormycosis is a rare but aggressive opportunistic fungal infection, predominantly affecting immunocompromised individuals. We report a case of a 59‐year‐old male with newly diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia undergoing chemotherapy who developed pulmonary mucormycosis, which rapidly progressed to disseminated disease with pericardial involvement, an ...

Necrotizing fasciitis in neonates: A case report and review of literature

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 11, Issue 11, November 2023., 2023
Necrotizing fasciitis, a rarely fatal but rapidly progressing disease, is less recognized in neonates. Polymicrobial infections are the primary culprits. As per the literature and a specific case, common clinical indications include erythema, fever, swelling, lethargy, and irritability.

Overcoming the Odds: Successful Treatment of Disseminated Mucormycosis with Gastrointestinal and Jaw Involvement in a Patient with Acute Myeloid Leukemia

open access: yesCase Reports in Infectious Diseases, Volume 2023, Issue 1, 2023., 2023
Disseminated mucormycosis is a rare life‐threatening fungal infection that is uniquely seen in severely immunocompromised patients including those with hematological malignancies. We report a case of disseminated mucormycosis with a biopsy‐proven gastrointestinal and oral cavity involvement in a patient with acute myeloid leukemia during induction ...

Isolated laryngeal Mucormycosis requiring laryngectomy

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 10, Issue 10, October 2022., 2022
Laryngeal mucormycosis may invade the laryngeal framework and persist despite significantintravenous antifungals. Surgical resection may be indicated to provide better quality of life anddefinitive treatment in this rare condition. Abstract We report a case of isolated laryngeal mucormycosis in a patient who presented in diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA ...

A guide to changing paradigms of glucocorticoid receptor function—a model system for genome regulation and physiology

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 289, Issue 19, Page 5718-5743, October 2022., 2022
The glucocorticoid receptor (GR) is a bona fide ligand‐regulated transcription factor. Different methodologies in the pregenomic and genomic era of molecular biological research and recent cutting‐edge technology of single‐cell and single‐molecule analysis are steadily evolving the views of GR and chromatin remodeling as well as its dynamic interaction.

Fatal invasive gastric mucormycosis: Two case reports

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 10, Issue 9, September 2022., 2022
Abstract Mucormycosis is a fungal infection affecting most commonly immunocompromised patients. Hereby, we report two cases: the first one is about a 61‐year‐old female with diabetes who presented with vomiting. The upper gastrointestinal endoscopy showed a budding grayish process which corresponded to an invasive mucormycosis in histology.

Comparative risk assessment of COVID‐19 associated mucormycosis and aspergillosis: A systematic review

open access: yesHealth Science Reports, Volume 5, Issue 5, September 2022., 2022
Abstract COVID‐19 is not only limited to a defined array but also has expanded with several secondary infections. Two uncommon opportunistic fungal infections, COVID‐19 associated mucormycosis (CAM) and aspergillosis (CAA), have recently been highly acquainted by many worldwide cases.

Rise of Mucormycosis during the COVID-19 Pandemic and the Challenges Faced [PDF]

open access: yesCurrent Medical Mycology, 2023
Mucormycosis (previously called zygomycosis) is a diverse group of increasingly recognized and frequently fatal mycotic diseases caused by members of the class zygomycetes. Mucormycosis is around 80 times more common in India, compared to other developed

Current situation of fungal diseases in Eritrea

open access: yesMycoses, Volume 65, Issue 8, Page 806-814, August 2022., 2022
Abstract The epidemiology of fungal infections in Eritrea is unknown. Most cases are under‐reported due to a lack of diagnostics. This study estimates the burden of serious fungal infections and highlights treatment and diagnostic gaps in the country.
