Pneumococcal Neuraminidase [PDF]
Lee, L. T. (Columbia University, New York, N.Y.),and C. Howe. Pneumoccal neuraminidase. J. Bacteriol.91:1418–1426. 1966.—The elaboration of neuraminidase by pneumococci grown under optimal conditions in liquid medium was studied in relation to the bacterial growth cycle.

Neuraminidase in Bacteroides fragilis [PDF]
A neuraminidase from Bacteroides fragilis was purified 542-fold by isoelectric focusing, adsorption chromatography on Affi-Gel 202, and gel filtration chromatography on Sephadex G-200. On isoelectric focusing the neuraminidase was resolved into three differently charged fractions with pI values of 6.8, 7.1, and 7.4.

Toxicity of Pneumococcal Neuraminidase [PDF]
Sterile sonic-treated materials of pneumococci grown in media containing N -acetylmannosamine as the carbohydrate source were lethal for mice. Purification of the toxic factor led to its identification as the enzyme neuraminidase.

Microglia activated by microbial neuraminidase contributes to ependymal cell death
The administration of microbial neuraminidase into the brain ventricular cavities of rodents represents a model of acute aseptic neuroinflammation. Ependymal cell death and hydrocephalus are unique features of this model.

Inhibitors of Human Neuraminidase Enzymes Block Transmigration in vitro
Cell migration to a site of inflammation is an important step of the immune response. This process is coordinated by cytokines, receptors, and the signal processing machinery of the cell.

Neuraminidase production by Bacteroidaceae [PDF]
The production of neuraminidase (EC 3.2.1.18) by 77 strains of Bacteroidaceae was investigated by techniques previously used to study neuraminidase production by clostridia. Conditions for culture and assay of Bacteroides fragilis neuraminidase were characterised.
