Background We previously reported that Wnt5a/CaMKIIδ (calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II delta) pathway was involved in the embryonic tongue deformity induced by excess retinoic acid (RA).

This study investigates an alternative approach to reactivating the oncosuppressor p53 in cancer. A short peptide targeting the association of the two p53 inhibitors, MDM2 and MDM4, induces an otherwise therapeutically active p53 with unique features that promote cell death and potentially reduce toxicity towards proliferating nontumor cells.

Muscle as a meta-material operating near a critical point [PDF]
Passive mechanical response of skeletal muscles at fast time scales is dominated by long range interactions inducing cooperative behavior without breaking the detailed balance. This leads to such unusual "material properties" as negative equilibrium stiffness and different behavior in force and displacement controlled loading conditions. Our fitting of

GPR142, a tryptophan‐sensing receptor, stimulates gastrointestinal hormones like ghrelin and is linked to inflammation regulation. Proinflammatory cytokines suppress ghrelin production, while tryptophan levels decrease via IDO1 activation. Our findings reveal that proinflammatory cytokines directly regulate GPR142 expression in ghrelin‐producing cells,

TNF-α- and tumor-induced skeletal muscle atrophy involves sphingolipid metabolism
Background Muscle atrophy associated with various pathophysiological conditions represents a major health problem, because of its contribution to the deterioration of patient status and its effect on mortality.

In plane quantification of in vivo muscle elastic anisotropy factor by steered ultrasound pushing beams [PDF]
Skeletal muscles are organized into distinct layers and exhibit anisotropic characteristics across various scales. Assessing the arrangement of skeletal muscles may provide valuable biomarkers for diagnosing muscle related pathologies and evaluating the efficacy of clinical interventions.

By using an electrical pulse stimulation (EPS)‐based in vitro exercise model and chemical activation/inhibition of mechanosensitive Piezo1 channels, we explored changes in protein synthetic response in cultured C2C12 myotubes. Our data showed that application of Piezo1 activator (Yoda1) during EPS significantly enhances the rate of protein synthesis in

Towards an efficient inverse static model of a Festo actuator made of two antagonist muscles for hybrid control of its position and stiffness [PDF]
The Festo air muscle is today one of the most known commercial version of the so-called McKibben pneumatic artificial muscle. A major advantage of handmade McKibben muscles, as well as its commercial versions, lies in the possibility it offers of realizing antagonist muscle actuator on the model of the biceps-triceps system.
