Towards quantifying variations in wind parameters across the Gulf of Finland [PDF]

open access: yesEstonian Journal of Earth Sciences, 2010
Several features of the spatial structure of wind patterns over the Gulf of Finland in the NE part of the Baltic Sea are analysed on the basis of wind parameters measured at two lighthouses (Tallinnamadal near the southern coast of the gulf and ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Geochemistry and correlation of volcanic ash beds from the Rootsiküla Stage (Wenlock–Ludlow) in the eastern Baltic [PDF]

open access: yesEstonian Journal of Earth Sciences, 2011
Nine altered volcanic ash samples from the shoal and lagoonal sediments of the Rootsiküla Stage (Wenlock–Ludlow boundary interval, Estonia) were analysed, compared and correlated with five samples of deep sea environments from Latvia.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Influence of aerosols, clouds, and sunglint on polarization spectra of Earthshine

open access: yes, 2017
Ground-based observations of the Earthshine, i.e., the light scattered by Earth to the Moon, and then reflected back to Earth, simulate space observations of our planet and represent a powerful benchmark for the studies of Earth-like planets.
