Factors that influence the stability of the FDG

open access: yesSaúde & Tecnologia, 2015
Introduction – The absence of a cyclotron for production of 2-[18F]Fluor-2- -deoxy-D-glucose (18F-FDG) is now a reality for most of the centers where Positron Emission Tomography (TEP) exams are held in. It is therefore important to ensure the quality of

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Utility of the PET/CT in the characterization of the solitary pulmonary nodule

open access: yesSaúde & Tecnologia, 2015
Background – The cancer of lung/trachea and bronchi is the leading cause of death from cancer in the European Union. Dual time in Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography (PET/CT) technique has been referred in some articles as a great value in ...

Emergent Orientation Selectivity from Random Networks in Mouse Visual Cortex [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The connectivity principles underlying the emergence of orientation selectivity in primary visual cortex (V1) of mammals lacking an orientation map (such as rodents and lagomorphs) are poorly understood.

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Wetting of Nematic Liquid Crystals on Crenellated Substrates: A Frank–Oseen Approach

open access: yesCrystals, 2019
We revisit the wetting of nematic liquid crystals in contact with crenellated substrates, studied previously using the Landau−de Gennes formalism.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Severe Accident Simulation of the Laguna Verde Nuclear Power Plant

open access: yesScience and Technology of Nuclear Installations, 2012
The loss-of-coolant accident (LOCA) simulation in the boiling water reactor (BWR) of Laguna Verde Nuclear Power Plant (LVNPP) at 105% of rated power is analyzed in this work. The LVNPP model was developed using RELAP/SCDAPSIM code.
