Update and Comparative Analysis of Food Environment Policies in Mexico: Implementation of the Healthy Food Environment Policy Index in 2016 and 2024

open access: yesObesity Reviews, Volume 27, Issue 1, Page 1-15, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Introduction Mexico faces a public health crisis due to the rising prevalence of obesity and noncommunicable diseases, primarily driven by unhealthy food environments. Objective To conduct a second implementation of the Food Environment Policy Index in Mexico to assess policy implementation levels related to healthy food environments and to ...

Process‐Based Design of Light Kombucha From Mulberry Coproducts: Effects of Agavins Degree of Polymerization on Physicochemical, Technofunctional, and Functional Potential

open access: yesInternational Journal of Food Science, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Reducing residual sugars in kombucha while preserving fermentation performance and consumer acceptance remains a key technological challenge. This study evaluated the effect of partially replacing sucrose with agavins of different degrees of polymerization (DPs) on the physicochemical, technofunctional, and functional properties of kombucha formulated ...

Diversity modulates above‐ground productivity in response to disturbances: The case of Iberian forests

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 113, Issue 12, Page 3605-3621, December 2025.
We analysed whether forest productivity responses to disturbances were modulated by structural and functional diversity, as well as by functional dominance, and whether these responses vary among functional groups. Forest diversity can mitigate the negative effects of disturbances on productivity.

Disentangling seed availability and establishment filters at alpine treelines through a decade‐long field manipulation

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 113, Issue 12, Page 3830-3844, December 2025.
Treeline advance under warming occurs only when multiple filters align—adequate seed supply, favourable microclimatic windows, moderated herbivory and shrub effects that remain facilitative rather than competitive. Abstract Climate warming is expected to increase upslope shifts of alpine treelines globally.

Vineyard maturity increases arbuscular mycorrhizal and decreases plant pathogen fungal relative abundance in bulk soil across a 1,000 km Chilean gradient

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, Volume 7, Issue 4, Page 987-997, July 2025.
Wine production has a significant impact on the global economy. Despite this, the microbial composition of the terroir has not been studied sufficiently, particularly in the southern hemisphere. Here, we investigated how bulk soil fungal communities are affected by several abiotic and biotic factors across 1,000 km of Chilean vineyards.

Terroir and rootstock effects on leaf shape in California Central Valley vineyards

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, Volume 7, Issue 4, Page 1110-1122, July 2025.
The innumerable effects of terroir—including climate, soil, microbial environment, biotic interactions, and cultivation practice—collectively alter plant performance and production. A more direct agricultural intervention is grafting, in which genetically distinct shoot and root genotypes are surgically combined to create a chimera that alters shoot ...
