Sex‐Specific Regulation of Glycemic Homeostasis by Theabrownin from Pu‐erh Tea
Pu‐erh tea's key component, theabrownin (TB), lowers blood glucose in a sex‐specific manner. In females, estrogen boosts intestinal MUC2 production, which dramatically enhances TB's ability to inhibit the carbohydrate‐digesting enzyme α‐glucosidase.

This review presents Caenorhabditis elegans and Drosophila melanogaster as powerful and ethically sound invertebrate model organisms that can be used to investigate nutritional science questions relating to biofactors. In a real‐world setting, 12‐month imeglimin therapy in Japanese patients with type 2 diabetes provided sustained glycemic improvements and enhanced endogenous insulin secretion. Importantly, these durable metabolic benefits were achieved without requiring an increase in overall glucose‐lowering treatment intensity.
