Influence of Uracil in Fermentation Media on β-Glucan Production by Agrobacterium Radiobacter A 1.5 and Agrobacterium sp. Bro 1.2.1

open access: yesMakara Seri Sains, 2007
Optimum β-glucan production can be achieved by an optimum condition in the fermentation media. Uracil, as a precursor of UDP-glucose, may act as a glucose donor in the formation of polysaccharides such as β-glucan. It is expected that addition of certain

Selection for Greater β‐Glucan Content in Oat Grain

open access: yes, 2001
Oat (Avena sativa L.) β-glucan lowers serum cholesterol in humans. Development of oat cultivars with greater groat (caryopsis) β-glucan content would increase the nutritional and economic value of the crop.

Comprehensive DIA‐MS Proteomics of Root Basal Nodes Elucidates Mechanisms of Salt Tolerance in Rice

open access: yesPROTEOMICS, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Soil salinity severely affects rice growth, yield, and quality, posing a global food security challenge. Rice is particularly vulnerable to high salinity, which restricts growth and tolerance to other stresses. To address this, breeding efforts have been made in the past, leading to the generation of multi‐stress‐tolerant rice lines.

First genome sequence of a European Alternaria brassicae isolate and genes involved in early development of alternaria leaf spot on Brassica juncea

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
This article reports the first genome sequence of a UK Alternaria brassicae isolate. Dual RNA‐sequencing profiling of A. brassicae‐infected Brassica juncea leaves identified differentially expressed genes involved in pathogenicity and host response pathways in moderately resistant Sej‐2 (2) and moderately susceptible Pusa Jaikisan cultivars.

β-1,3-glucan oligosaccharides triggered quicker defense reactions than high degree of polymerization in tobacco

open access: yes, 2011
Chemically hydrolyzed curdlan oligosaccharides (CRDO), low degree of polymerization (DP) of β-1,3-glucan, were prepared to compare with Laminaran (Lam) with high DP for discussing the difference on defense-inducing activity in tobacco.

Almond Shell‐Derived Cellulosic Microfibres: Extraction, Characterisation and Applications in Sustainable Paper‐Based Packaging

open access: yesPackaging Technology and Science, EarlyView.
Cellulosic microfibres were extracted from almond shells using organosolv, soda and kraft processes, and comprehensive physicochemical, surface, thermal and morphological characterisation demonstrated their strong potential as sustainable fillers for paper‐based packaging application. ABSTRACT This study develops pathways for the valorisation of almond

Deciphering Branched Galactomannan Structures via Multistage Ion Mobility MS and MSn Fragmentation (Multistage IMSn)

open access: yesRapid Communications in Mass Spectrometry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Rationale Hemicelluloses are abundant carbohydrate components in plant cell walls. They play a crucial structural role in binding cellulose microfibrils, in addition to other biological functions. Their high structural variability directly influences their biological properties, making it important to establish a structure–function ...

The polysaccharide Pullulan improves the initial steps of allergen‐specific immunotherapy in dogs

open access: yesVeterinary Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Allergen‐specific immunotherapy (AIT) is the only aetiological treatment for canine atopic dermatitis (CAD). Pullulan, a polysaccharide with immunomodulatory properties, may enhance AIT outcomes when combined with allergens such as recombinant Dermatophagoides farinae 2 (Der f 2).

Modulation of some cell surface antigens in the monocyte-like cell line U937 in response to β-1,3-1,6 glucan derived from Aureobasidium pullulans

open access: yes, 2008
