Effects of 5-aminolevulinic acid on the inflammatory responses and antioxidative capacity in broiler chickens challenged with lipopolysaccharide

open access: yesAnimal, 2022
5-Aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA) is an intermediate in haem biosynthesis and has anti-apoptotic, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and other pharmacological effects.

Alpha-Lipoic Acid Protects Co-Exposure to Lead and Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles Induced Neuro, Immuno and Male Reproductive Toxicity in Rats

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2021
We evaluated the neuro-, immuno-, and male reproductive toxicity of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) alone and in combination with lead acetate. We also studied the therapeutic role of α-lipoic acid postexposure.

Beyond a dual role: how Purpureocillium lilacinum reprograms citrus metabolism for integrated biocontrol and growth promotion

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND Plants harbor complex microbial communities that are fundamental to their health and productivity. Among them, endophytic fungi such as Purpureocillium lilacinum establish mutualistic associations, offering dual benefits as plant growth promoters and biocontrol agents.

Antimicrobial photodynamic therapy in Candida spp. biofilms: In vitro and in vivo protocols

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, EarlyView.
This review addresses the critical challenges in translating in vitro antimicrobial photodynamic therapy protocols to in vivo models, with a particular focus on the hurdles of standardization. The vast diversity in photosensitizers and light parameters across different target cells and models requires a rigorous optimization process.

Plastid and cytoplasmic origins of 1O2-mediated transcriptomic responses

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2022
The reactive oxygen species singlet oxygen, 1O2, has an extremely short half-life, yet is intimately involved with stress signalling in the cell. We previously showed that the effects of 1O2 on the transcriptome are highly correlated with 80S ribosomal ...

A Library of Versatile Lignocellulose‐Derived Monomers From 5‐(Chloromethyl)furfural

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 19, Issue 19, 14 October 2026.
5‐(Chloromethyl)furfural (CMF), an emerging bio‐based platform molecule, was coupled with lignin‐derived compounds to afford a library of ligno‐cellulosic monomers under mild and scalable conditions. The products were isolated in high yields without chromatographic purification and further reduced to renewable diols, providing versatile building blocks

Estimation of urinary δ Aminolevulinic Acid Levels (δ-ALA) in children of age group 1 to 5 years as an index of lead exposure

open access: yesMRIMS Journal of Health Sciences, 2018
Background: Lead poisoning is very much common in India and has significant negative impact on general health of children. Lead inhibits necessary enzymes required for heme synthesis, this results in increased levels of delta aminolevulinic acid ...

Structural and Functional Characterisation of a Metagenome‐Derived CYP108D18 Reveals an Unusual Dioxygen‐Bound State and Selective Hydrocarbon Hydroxylation

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology, Volume 19, Issue 10, October 2026.
CYP108D18, identified from a hot spring metagenome, catalyses selective phenylcyclohexane hydroxylation. This P450 has an exceptionally low substrate‐bound heme redox potential. Crystal structures revealed an unusual dioxygen‐bound substrate‐free form and a persistent open active site upon substrate binding.

Efficient and selective isotopic labeling of hemes to facilitate the study of multiheme proteins

open access: yesBioTechniques, 2012
Specific isotopic labeling of hemes provides a unique opportunity to characterize the structure and function of heme-proteins. Unfortunately, current methods do not allow efficient labeling in high yields of multiheme cytochromes c, which are of great ...
