Highlights Different microvascular phenotypes were detected by noninvasive optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) in metabolically healthy obesity and metabolic syndrome patients. Baseline blood pressure and insulin status may be key determinants for vascular benefit from bariatric surgery.

Highlights For the first time, our study contributed a systematic evaluation of bile acid (BA) profiles in plasma, feces and liver tissue and gut microbiota changes triggered by fasting‐refeeding cycle in mice. Our work clearly demonstrated that overnight fasting leads to significant, but reversible changes in BA profiles and gut microbiota composition.

Highlights Reproductive variables are associated with metabolic syndrome (MetS) and its components, but the results are conflicting. In this cross‐sectional study involving 4453 women over 40, we found that reproductive variables, including menarche, pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, and menopause, may play a role in modulating the risk of MetS ...

Highlights In a community‐dwelling Chinese population, famine exposure in early life, especially during the fetal and childhood stages, has an association with an increased risk of metabolic syndrome (MetS) in later life, but the above findings only applied to females, not males.

Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Studies have shown that organisms may adjust metabolic rates in response to thermal variability, highlighting metabolic plasticity as a key adaptive mechanism. Understanding the extent of metabolic plasticity of an organism is key to predicting its adaptation to climate

Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Non‐structural carbohydrates (NSC) are critical mediators of plant adaptation to fluctuating light environments. They are tightly coordinated with plant economic strategy, that is, leaf economics spectrum (LES) and root economics spectrum (RES).

Malignancy-associated metabolic profiling of human glioma cell lines using 1H NMR spectroscopy [PDF]

The application of NMR techniques in origin characterization and adulteration identification of honey [PDF]

We profiled nutritional and physiological markers in captive sifakas, endangered primates from Madagascar, managed in expansive, non‐native forest enclosures. Variation in many markers reflects freely foraged diets and the energy required to maintain homeostasis under more naturalistic conditions.
