The Dynamical Evolution of Multiple Systems of Trapezium Type [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
We have selected archival observational data for several O and B trapezia in the Milky Way. For each of the main components of the trapezia we obtained transverse velocities from the historical separation data. With this information, and with the stellar masses of the main components, we studied the dynamical evolution of ensembles of multiple systems ...

Minimizing fungal disease deaths will allow the UNAIDS target of reducing annual AIDS deaths below 500 000 by 2020 to be realized

open access: yesPhilosophical Transactions of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences, 2016
Deaths from AIDS (1 500 000 in 2013) have been falling more slowly than anticipated with improved access to antiretroviral therapy. Opportunistic infections account for most AIDS-related mortality, with a median age of death in the mid-30s. About 360 000

Protonophore activity of short‐chain fatty acids induces their intracellular accumulation and acidification

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The protonated form of butyrate, as well as other short‐chain fatty acids (SCFAs), is membrane permeable. In acidic extracellular environments, this can lead to intracellular accumulation of SCFAs and cytosolic acidification. This phenomenon will be particularly relevant in acidic environments such as the large intestine or tumor microenvironments ...

Lithuanian unpublished interwar topographical maps

open access: yesGeodesy and Cartography, 2012
A number of publications about Lithuanian interwar topographical mapping present the same piece of information that until the beginning of the World War II only the following maps were published: 92 M 1:25 000 and 44 M 1:100 000. The article analyses the

Modifications in FLAP's second cytosolic loop influence 5‐LOX interaction, inhibitor binding, and leukotriene formation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The enzyme 5‐lipoxygenase (5‐LOX) catalyzes the first step in the biosynthesis of leukotrienes (LTs) involved in inflammatory pathophysiology. After cellular stimulation, 5‐LOX translocates to the nucleus, interacting with the 5‐LOX‐activating protein (FLAP) to form LTA4 from arachidonic acid (AA).

Brucella NyxA and NyxB dimerization enhances effector function during infection

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Brucella abortus thrives inside cells thanks to the translocation of effector proteins that fine‐tune cellular functions. NyxA and NyxB are two effectors that destabilize the nucleolar localization of their host target, SENP3. We show that the Nyx proteins directly interact with each other and that their dimerization is essential for their function ...
