Graphene on the C-terminated SiC (000 $\bar{1}$) surface: An ab initio study [PDF]
The atomic and electronic structures of a graphene layer on top of the $(2\times2)$ reconstruction of the SiC (000$\bar{1}$) surface are studied from ab initio calculations. At variance with the (0001) face, no C bufferlayer is found here. Si adatoms passivate the substrate surface so that the very first C layer presents a linear dispersion ...

Multiple evidence strands suggest that there may be as few as 19 000 human protein-coding genes
Determining the full complement of protein-coding genes is a key goal of genome annotation. The most powerful approach for confirming protein-coding potential is the detection of cellular protein expression through peptide mass spectrometry (MS ...

Galaxy Zoo 1: data release of morphological classifications for nearly 900 000 galaxies [PDF]
Morphology is a powerful indicator of a galaxy’s dynamical and merger history. It is strongly correlated with many physical parameters, including mass, star formation history and the distribution of mass.

Glutaredoxin (Grx) 3 proteins contain a thioredoxin domain and one to three class II Grx domains. These proteins play a crucial role in iron homeostasis in eukaryotic cells. In human Grx3, at least one of the two Grx domains, together with the thioredoxin domain, is essential for its function in iron metabolism.

To explore the impact of the overexpression of the multidrug‐transporter P‐glycoprotein (ABCB1) on membrane fluidity, we compared the transversal gradient of mobility and microviscosity in plasma membranes of drug‐sensitive Chinese hamster ovary cells (AuxB1) and their multidrug‐resistant derivatives (B30) using the fluorescent n‐(9‐anthroyloxy) fatty ...

Cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) promote cancer growth, invasion (metastasis), and drug resistance. Here, we identified functional and diverse circulating CAFs (cCAFs) in patients with metastatic prostate cancer (mPCa). cCAFs were found in higher numbers and were functional and diverse in mPCa patients versus healthy individuals, suggesting their ...
