Paraoxonase 1 Phenotype and Protein N-Homocysteinylation in Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis: Implications for Cardiovascular Disease

open access: yesAntioxidants, 2020
Paraoxonase 1 (PON1) is the high density lipoprotein-associated esterase which inhibits the development of atherosclerosis by metabolizing lipid peroxidation products as well as hydrolyzing proatherogenic metabolite of homocysteine (Hcy), Hcy thiolactone,

The outcomes of electronic personal health records in patients with heart failure or coronary artery disease

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 1464-1468, April 2025.
Abstract Background There are limited data on the efficacy of smartphone‐based personal health records (PHRs) in patients with cardiovascular disease. This study aimed to examine the processes, outcomes and challenges associated with the implementation of integrated PHRs in patients with heart failure (HF) or coronary artery disease (CAD). Methods This

Mortality in functional seizures: Evidence from a large electronic health records dataset

open access: yesEpilepsia, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Several studies have found that people with functional seizures (FS) have increased mortality, approaching that of epilepsy (epileptic seizures [ES]). The small numbers of deaths in these studies make it unclear whether they can be attributed to comorbidities. We used a very large electronic health database to compare mortality in FS

Bicistronic Vector Expression of Recombinant Jararhagin-C and Its Effects on Endothelial Cells

open access: yesToxins
Jararhagin-C (JarC) is a protein from the venom of Bothrops jararaca consisting of disintegrin-like and cysteine-rich domains. JarC shows a modulating effect on angiogenesis and remodeling of extracellular matrix constituents, improving wound healing in ...

High Relative Accuracy Computations With Covariance Matrices of Order Statistics

open access: yesMathematical Methods in the Applied Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In many statistical applications, numerical computations with covariance matrices need to be performed. The error made when performing such numerical computations increases with the condition number of the covariance matrix, which is related to the number of variables and the strength of the correlation between the variables. In a recent work,

Leveraging Public Transit for Robotic Deliveries: A Column Generation Approach

open access: yesNaval Research Logistics (NRL), EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) are small, electric, wheeled vehicles that operate at pedestrian speeds. In the last‐mile delivery service considered in this study, a fleet of AMRs is deployed across multiple recharging depots within a service area, from which they depart to perform point‐to‐point deliveries. We consider an operational setting

From the brink of extinction to regulation: northern Europe's white‐tailed eagles now face density dependence and climate constraints after rapid population growth

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Population growth reflects the combined influence of regulation and density‐independent factors operating through demographic processes. Under exceptional circumstances (e.g. populations recovering from near‐extinction), growth may initially be weakly regulated but typically slows as negative density dependence (NDD) sets in.
