Matrix stiffness induces Ca2+-DCLK1-PIP5K1A mechanotransduction as a context-specific amplifier in pancreatic cancer progression and chemotherapy resistance

open access: yesExperimental Hematology & Oncology
Alterations in extracellular matrix (ECM) architecture and stiffness are hallmarks of aggressive pancreatic cancer progression. However, the mechanisms by which ECM biomechanical properties regulate malignant biological behavior remain unknown.

Animal cell cytokinesis: the role of dynamic changes in the plasma membrane proteome and lipidome [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In animal cells, cytokinesis is characterised by the formation of the mitotic spindle that signals the assembly of an actomyosin ring between the spindle poles.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Heme oxygenase 1-mediated ferroptosis in Kupffer cells initiates liver injury during heat stroke

open access: yesActa Pharmaceutica Sinica B
With the escalating prevalence of global heat waves, heat stroke has become a prominent health concern, leading to substantial liver damage. Unlike other forms of liver injury, heat stroke-induced damage is characterized by heat cytotoxicity and ...

ISA-2011B, a Phosphatidylinositol 4-Phosphate 5-Kinase α Inhibitor, Impairs CD28-Dependent Costimulatory and Pro-inflammatory Signals in Human T Lymphocytes

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2017
Phosphatidylinositol 4,5-biphosphate (PIP2) is a membrane phospholipid that controls the activity of several proteins regulating cytoskeleton reorganization, cytokine gene expression, T cell survival, proliferation, and differentiation ...

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Marked alteration of phosphoinositide signaling‐associated molecules in postmortem prefrontal cortex with bipolar disorder

open access: yesNeuropsychopharmacology Reports
Aim The etiology of bipolar disorder (BD) remains unknown; however, lipid abnormalities in BD have received increasing attention in recent years. In this study, we examined the expression levels of enzyme proteins associated with the metabolic pathway of

Impact of polyphenols on mast cells with special emphasis on the effect of quercetin and luteolin

open access: yesCentral European Journal of Immunology, 2018
Polyphenols are ubiquitous in food and have long been recognized to possess antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anticancer activities. Mast cells (MCs) are implicated in the pathogenesis of inflammatory diseases, allergy, autoimmunity and cancer.

Vemurafenib Inhibits Acute and Chronic Enterovirus Infection by Affecting Cellular Kinase Phosphatidylinositol 4-Kinase Type IIIβ

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum, 2023
Enteroviruses are one of the most abundant viruses causing mild to serious acute infections in humans and also contributing to chronic diseases like type 1 diabetes. Presently, there are no approved antiviral drugs against enteroviruses. Here, we studied
