The UOR mechanism on Pt, Ni, and PtNi surfaces shows that at low potentials, only Pt/C and PtNi/C are active, promoting the formation of N2 as the dominant product. At higher potentials, C–N bond cleavage becomes predominant, and NO intermediates drive the formation of NO2− as the main product on PtNi/C and Ni/C.
