Toward transferable interatomic van der Waals interactions without electrons: The role of multipole electrostatics and many-body dispersion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We estimate polarizabilities of atoms in molecules without electron density, using a Voronoi tesselation approach instead of conventional density partitioning schemes.

Spreading depolarization and its influence on epileptiform activity

open access: yesEpilepsia, EarlyView.
Abstract Spreading depolarization (SD) is a transient disruption of electrographic activity that slowly propagates through the gray matter by chemical contiguity, and it is characterized by a large depolarization of neurons and glial cells. SD, which is associated with massive changes in ion homeostasis, including extreme increases in [K+]o, was shown ...

Sinteza, in vitro antitumorsko ispitivanje i radiosenzitirajuće vrednovanje novih derivata 4-[3-(supstituiranih)tioureido]-N-(kinoksalin-2-il)benzensulfonamida [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Sulfonamides and quinoxaline derivatives possess many types of biological activities and have been recently reported to show substantial antitumor activity. This paper reports the synthesis of novel thioureidosulfaquinoxaline derivatives.

Blebbistatin reduces calcium buffering in cardiomyocytes: Consequences for cellular electrophysiology

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Blebbistatin reduces Ca2+ buffering in induced pluripotent stem cell‐derived atrial cardiomyocytes. Blebbistatin, a widely used excitation–contraction uncoupling agent, decreases calcium (Ca2+) buffer affinity (increased buffer dissociation constant), leading to elevated diastolic Ca2+ levels, increased sarcoplasmic reticulum Ca2+

The sympathoregulatory region of the mouse rostral brainstem relies on both GABA and glycine to generate inhibitory currents

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Our study demonstrates that both GABA and glycine mediate inhibitory postsynaptic currents in the ventrolateral/ventromedial medulla (VLM/VMM) and increasing the activity of inhibitory synapses facilitates glycine release. We found that presympathetic VLM/VMM neurons receive glycinergic inputs, which release both glycine and GABA,

Pyridine Elaboration through Organometallic Intermediates: Regiochemical Control and Completeness [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
International audiencePyridines carrying heterosubstituents (such as carboxy, amido, amino, alkoxy or trifluoromethyl groups or solely individual halogen atoms) can be readily and site selectively metalated.

Deciphering pro‐arrhythmogenic mechanisms of EPAC in human atrial cardiomyocytes

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend This study aimed to investigate the effect of exchange proteins directly activated by cAMP (EPAC) on the regulation of human atrial cardiomyocyte electrophysiology and their potential involvement in the onset of atrial fibrillation (AF).

Investigating the role of c-Jun N-terminal kinases in the proliferation of Werner syndrome fibroblasts using diaminopyridine inhibitors

open access: yesChemistry Central Journal, 2011
Fibroblasts derived from the progeroid Werner syndrome show reduced replicative lifespan and a "stressed" morphology, both alleviated using the MAP kinase inhibitor SB203580.

A Novel Synthesis of (E)-3-Methylthio-3-Substituted Arylamino-2-Cyanoacrylates under Microwave Irradiation

open access: yesMolecules, 2005
A facile synthesis of 3-methylthio-3-arylamino-2-cyanoacrylates from 3,3-dimethylthioacrylate and aromatic amines or amino pyridines has been achieved in moderate to high yields (64.0% ~ 93.5%) in 30 minutes at 50°C under microwave irradiation.
