Validation of the Euroscore on Cardiac Surgery Patients in Nairobi
Background: The Additive Euroscore (AE) predicts outcomes in cardiac surgical procedures performed on cardiopulmonary bypass. It’s been widely used in developed nations but it’s applicability in Kenya is unknown.

Ecosystem Integrity Remote Sensing—Modelling and Service Tool—ESIS/Imalys
One of the greatest challenges of our time is monitoring the rapid environmental changes taking place worldwide at both local and global scales. This requires easy-to-use and ready-to-implement tools and services to monitor and quantify aspects of bio ...

Epithelial-Myoepithelial Carcinoma of the Salivary Gland
The World Health Organization (2005) defines an epithelial-myoepithelial carcinoma (EMC) as a malignancy composed of two cell types that typically form duct-like structures.1 We present herein an archival case from the parotid gland.

Protein aggregates threaten proteostasis and cell health. In human cells, Hsp70–J‐domain protein‐based disaggregases remove aggregates, but how they assemble remains unclear. Our biochemical findings show that DNAJA2‐ and DNAJB1‐containing disaggregase scaffolds enhance luciferase aggregate targeting, and that Hsp70 recruitment by both J‐domain ...

A multiscale analysis of nutrient transport and biological tissue growth in vitro [PDF]
In this paper, we consider the derivation of macroscopic equations appropriate to describe the growth of biological tissue, employing a multiple-scale homogenisation method to accommodate explicitly the influence of the underlying microscale structure of

The role of miR‐335‐5p in the redifferentiation of BRAF p.V600E thyroid cancers
The BRAF p.V600E mutation promotes thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and radioiodine resistance. Using a network approach, we identified miR‐335‐5p as a key regulator of BRAF‐mutated thyroid tumors. Restoring miR‐335‐5p increased thyroid‐specific gene expression and iodine uptake in cells and organoids.

Composition Algebras with Large Derivation Algebras [PDF]
The finite dimensional flexible composition algebras include the Hurwitz algebras (composition algebras with unit element), but also other interesting classes of algebras: the para-Hurwitz and the Okubo algebras. The above mentioned algebras present many

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...
