Orientation in the nitration of 2-pyridones

Chemistry of Heterocyclic Compounds, 1978
The ratio of 3- and 5-nitro isomers formed in the nitration of 2-pyridones with nitric acid is determined by the reaction temperature but is independent of the concentration of the nitrating agent. The presence of a phenyl group in the 6 position of the α-pyridone ring hinders incorporation of a nitro group in the 5 position.

Cycloaddition reactions of 4-sulfur-substituted dihydro-2-pyridones and 2-pyridones with conjugated dienes

Tetrahedron, 2008
Cycloaddition reactions of sulfoxide- and sulfone-substituted dihydro-2-pyridones and 2-pyridones with electron-rich dienes gave new bicyclic and tricyclic products in good to fair yields. The reactivity, regioselectivity, and stereoselectivity of these reactions were compared with semi-empirical theoretical calculations.

Tautomerism and Microsolvation in 2-Hydroxypyridine/2-Pyridone

The Journal of Physical Chemistry A, 2010
The Fourier transform microwave spectra of the hydrated forms of the tautomeric pair 2-pyridinone/2-hydroxypyridine (2PO/2HP) have been investigated in a supersonic expansion. Three hydrated species, 2PO-H₂O, 2HP-H₂O, and 2PO-(H₂O)₂, have been observed in the rotational spectrum.

Photochemical dehydrogenation of 3,4-dihydro-2-pyridones

Photochemical & Photobiological Sciences, 2009
Photochemical dehydrogenation of various substituted 3,4-dihydro-2-pyridones was achieved in a very efficient way by employing 10-15 mol% of photo-induced electron transfer sensitizers like 9-cyanoanthracene, 9-cyanophenanthrene and 1-cyanonaphthalene in presence of molecular oxygen, for the first time.

Enantioselective Photochemical Reactions of 2-Pyridones in Solution

Organic Letters, 2001
[reaction: see text] Two key photochemical reactions of prochiral 2-pyridones were studied in the presence of a chiral host. The [4 + 4]-photocycloaddition with cyclopentadiene (CpH) proceeded smoothly and with high enantioselectivity (84-87% ee). The absolute configuration of the endo-diastereoisomer was established by X-ray crystallography.

Hybrid density functionals and ab initio studies of 2-pyridone–H2O and 2-pyridone–(H2O)2

Chemical Physics Letters, 2000
Abstract Theoretical calculations have been carried out on the interaction between water and the carbonyl base 2-pyridone. The calculations have been performed with two hybrid density functionals (B3-PW91 and B3-LYP). The comparison with experimental gas phase data as well as with results from the ab initio methods RHF and MP2 shows good performance ...

Oxidation of chiral non-racemic pyridinium salts to enantiopure 2-pyridone and 3-alkyl-2-pyridones

Tetrahedron: Asymmetry, 1998
Abstract Oxidation of chiral non-racemic pyridinium salt 1a and 3-alkyl pyridinium salts 1b and 1c with potassium ferricyanide in an alkaline medium provides a short and practical access to enantiomerically pure 2-pyridone ( 2a ) and 3-alkyl-2-pyridones ( 2b and 2c ) in high yields and very good regioselectivity from derivatives 1 ( b – c ).
