Oxidation of chiral non-racemic pyridinium salts to enantiopure 2-pyridone and 3-alkyl-2-pyridones

Abstract Oxidation of chiral non-racemic pyridinium salt 1a and 3-alkyl pyridinium salts 1b and 1c with potassium ferricyanide in an alkaline medium provides a short and practical access to enantiomerically pure 2-pyridone ( 2a ) and 3-alkyl-2-pyridones ( 2b and 2c ) in high yields and very good regioselectivity from derivatives 1 ( b – c ).

Nitration of 1-methyl-2-pyridone

Nitration of 1-methyl-2-pyridone with 70% nitric acid or fuming nitric acid at 0–20°C proceeds in the 3 and 5 positions to give a mixture of mononitro isomers, the structures of which were proved by PMR spectroscopy. Mainly 3,5-dinitro-1-methyl-2-pyridone is formed by the action of fuming nitric acid or a nitrating mixture at 90°.

2-Pyridon-katalysierte Esteraminolyse

Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit wurde die katalysierte Aminolysereaktion aktivierter Ester durch Amine in unpolaren Lösemitteln untersucht. Als Modelreaktion diente dabei die n-Butylaminolyse von p-Nitrophenylacetat, die mit Hilfe von 1H-NMR-Messungen in CDCl3 spektroskopisch verfolgt wurde. Als Katalysatoren dienten alkylsubstituierte 3-Cyano-2-pyridone.

Copper-Catalyzed Regioselective Imidation of 2-Pyridones

Organic Letters
We demonstrate a ligand- and glovebox-free regioselective direct C(3)-H imidation of 2-pyridones and also benzylic-type imidation of 2-pyridones bearing a methyl substituent employing Cu(OAc)2·H2O as the catalyst and N-fluorobenzenesulfonimide (NFSI) as an imidating reagent.
